Hi. I just joined this group. I have two girls and we just started going to Joga Yoga for kids 5-10 years of age and their moms at Brentwood Center of Health. I love it because it because I get to take the class with them and get a 'lil yoga in without needing a sitter. It's the same price even though I join in and have two kids-$50 for 4 weeks. Fri at 4pm. Thought this may be of interest to some other moms ot there. There's a tot class on Sundays. www.bcoh.org. I know all this 'cause my hubby and I co-own this holistic center. Hope this is of interest to the group. I look forward to being a part of Wellness Moms as this is my passion!! Thanks! |

Welcome Suzanne,
That sounds like a blast. RoseMarie is only 11 months right now, but it would absolutly consider the tots class in a year or so.

Hi Celeste, Thanks for the email. I will let you know if a baby class for under 2 years of age gets going :) I know our instructor, Michaela Turner would love to get one off the ground. How much fun to have an 11 mo old running...or crawling...around. That's a mother of 5 and 7 year old girls talking that misses the baby stage already...
But there is so much to enjoy about the ages Reilly and Morgan are right now to keep me smilin'. Just love babies. |

I just love the idea of including my daughter in my yoga practice. I have learned so much from yoga as an adult and I would like for her to be exposed to some of it growing up so she doesn't have to learn it all after 18.
At the yoga studio I go to, there are pictures of a little boy (about 3) at his first yoga practice. So cute! So inspiring! SInce I saw those pictures I have been trying to get my mat out every day or so and just let her see me doing sun saluations. I have also started trying to model deep breathing when she is really upset.
Are there other things you are doing to teach your girls about wellness (and improve your own)?

hey, yes, we do a little reiki (energy work and breathing) anytime there's a boo-boo. Even if you don't "know" reiki, you can teach slowing down, being still and breathing when someone bumps an elbow or stubs a toe. funny, but i had to practice this yesterday as i was trimming my rose bushes in SANDLES in the garden a dropped my trimmer on my foot. not good. (i will wear close toed shoes from now on) but i found myself jumping right back into what i'd been doing, barely taking time to notice i was bleeding. hello.
so finally i got how silly this was and stopped and took care to clean and treat and put a bandaid on it like i would do for my girls. then took some time to be with that i had been so busy to get back to what i was doing...and took time to love on my hurt toe. :) this idea of slowing down and being present is probably one of the greatest things i hope my kids pick up from me. we teach what we need to know :) but really, wellness and a spiritual foundation are the most important things to me in being a mom. it's so constant-the opportunities to be about "wellness" with our kids...the way we eat...when and how we eat...how we manage stress, disappointment, conflict...so much...if and how we exercise, take time for ourselves, love and accept ourselves ...a big one with raising girls as society is all about not being enough and if only you looked this way or had that. we talk alot about happiness coming from inside. we say all the time as a family when one of us is wanting something they're not getting or seems unhappy... "happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want". i remind myself of this frequently. i learn so much from being with them.
how 'bout you? |
