| I am getting two sheep this spring as pets for my son, but I really want to learn to spin so I can make my own wool to knitt and crochet with. Does anyone have spinning experience? I am thinking of using the thing that looks like a top to start. |

Are you still looking to learn how to spin. I spin yarn. I love it. How are your sheep. I don't have sheep but I buy roving. If you would like to talk let me know. The way to go is with a wheel. I don't like to spin with the a spindle.

Hey Anna- I am self taught for the most part but did go to a spinning group. I looked it up and there is a spinning group near you I think IN Memphis. Sorry my typing is so bad. NOah is in my arms and loves the keyboard. This is the info:Memphis Spinning on the River Guild Website: www.memphisfiberarts.org/spin/ Contact: Mary Lessman, P.O. Box 842, Cordova, TN 38088-0842
I went to a group near me and they taught me. Usually the groups are older ladies that love to get together and pass on the art of spinning. And knitting and crochetting and weaving. They are really helpful. You can tae classes but those are harder to come by although i do Not know if your area.
Raw wool is the stuff taken off the sheep and it is almost impossible to spin that and I have neevr tried. Roving is the stuff that has been washed, combed and sometimesa dyed that can be spun. There is a great website with videos called www.joyofhandspinning.com. After that it is just tons of practice. I still need lots of it. I am lucky that I like chunky and unusual yarns.
I hope we can keep talking. I love spinning! |
