4yr old entering PreK in the fall..
My 4yr old is starking preK this fall-- i take him to story time at the library to try to get him used to listening to a teacher and sitting... he HATES it. but we keep going back bc im convinced that this short (20-30min) time of interactive play and reading is good for him. i read to him nightly- and he loves books! so i dont understand why he hates going to library story time. maybe bc there are other 4-5yr olds there and he wants to play? anyway- my question is this:
what are some good options to help my son prepare for preK? or does preK prepare him for preK? ya know?
ps- im loving this raising them website. this is awesome.
i appreciate you!

I don't know if you have anything in your city like what we have in San Diego but I take my kids to the adult continuing education parenting classes. It is like a Mommy and Me preschool where you stay with your child. It is run just like a preschool with circle time, outdoor play, indoor play, arts and crafts and much more. I would contact your community college and see if they offer anything like that. It has helped my kids prepare to be in a classroom setting.

I have a 4year old that started pre-k in the fall. I was so unsure of how he was going to act, I thought about just waiting until kindergarten to start him in school. He is my middle son, and very, very emotional!!! My mother kept saying-You know that you will have to go and get him from school early alot!! Noone thought that he would be able to handle it! I am a sahm, and I have been the only one who he has stayed with all day. I knew that I needed a break and he needed to be in school, so we went for it. He is totally different at school than he is at home!! You would think that that is a completely different child. We do visits to the school alot just to check on he and my older son, and there is never any problems with him. My family is still in shock at how well he does at school. Whatever worries you have about your son will most likely subside after he starts school. So for us, pre-k prepared ours for pre-k. Now I can't wait until my youngest is able to start pre-k!! Hopefully this will be of some help-I wish you all the best with this pre-k thing!!!

My 5 yr old is in Head Start now. He'll be going to kindergarden in the fall. He loves going to school. Yes, he's different at school then at home; however, he doesn't like to listen anyway. Just the age group, I think.
Also, there's a website out there called CafeMom.com; you should check it out. It's kinda like Raising Them.
