Hi all! New to the group.
I have been trying to figure out how to find a preschool or Mother's day out program for my daughter. She'll be 2 this summer. I realize I can search the internet, but are there any pointers for finding a good place?
I'm a SAHM, rather shy, and don't have any friends w/ toddlers nearby. I think its important for socialization and hope that my being so shy doesn't rub off on her. Rather if she's going to be shy I'd like to help her develop social skills sooner than later. |

Hi Cheryn,
My son just turned two in Feb and I tried a Mother's Day Out right before he turned one, unfortunately he did not enjoy it and after a few times they told me to give him while because he just wasn't ready. I have never taken him to another mother's day out. Every child is different. We do not have any family close by so he is around my husband and I all the time. I asked my pedi and she said that children don't really start to play together until there are about 3 anyway.becaue I was worried as well that he wasn't getting enough socialization. I have found a playday through a state program and it is at a local elementary school. We go every friday for two hours. They have holiday parties and he is getting to know 3 boys there very well, we plan to do somethings over the summer with the boys and there mother's like zoo trips and museum trips. I don't know what state you live in but I believe there are other states with similar programs ours is called OPAT "Oklahoma Parents As Teachers" so maybe go online and look for something similar. You can also contact maybe like a Headstart in your area and see if they can help you. I came upon this program in the Sunday paper before school started last year. The program runs during the school year and out for the summer, I am so glad I found this program. Also you can go to your local Library and see if they have a reading program for Toddlers. My son goes on Wed (sometimes) to ours. He loves to be read to. Best Of Luck |

Thans Amy. I've registered us for a class at our gym for 1-3 year olds, and a swim class later in the summer. I worry about trying the library because she is what we've heard termed "high maintenance" she was a colicky baby that once the colic passed her need to be upright and non-stop mobile didn't pass. I worry about being the mom w/ the uncontrollable toddler - and in a library even worse. LOL Though my family tells me all the time I'm hypersensitive to it and she's just being like every other toddler. I guess I won't know unless I bite the bullet and go. |

Cheryn, my son is two years old and had colic until he was 5 months old. He was walking by 10 months and has been full tilt ever since. I also take him to story time at the library (but only when he is in a very good mood) we sit near the back of the library so that if he gets too wound up we can leave without making too much of a fuss but he does enjoy the stories and loves the crafts (as long as they are under 5 minutes long). You may want to try just taking her when you know there will be a story time and having her color or do puzzles or just explore to get her used to it. Good luck |
