Hello! My name is Karrie. I am 35 yrs. old and pregnant with my second baby. I had Jack just six days after I turned 34. I think being an "older" mom has so many benefits, and it's hard to come up with any cons. I got married when I was 32. I didn't put it off because of a fabulous career or anything--I just needed to wait for the right person, and I had a lot of soul-searching to do. My dad died when I was 19, and that left me asking all the "big" questions at an age when you're supposed to be figuring out what you want to be when you grow up. (I still haven't figured that one out, by the way! I think it's just "mommy.") Anyway, I don't think there's ever a "perfect" age to start having a family, but if you're thinking of doing and want to have a family, don't let age (esp. feeling like you're too old) keep you from doing it. I have a cousin who's due the same day as I am, and she'll be turning 40 this year. When I look at her and interact with her, it would never cross my mind that she's "too old" to be having a baby. (I do sometimes think people are too young, though!) Anyway, I just joined RT, and I'm looking forward to building a community here. Will probably be seeking advice once this new one arrives, and I try to figure out how to be mommy to two! Karrie |
