Sippy cups
Hi everyone!
Around what age does baby usually graduate to the sippy cup? Our pediatrician says now is the time (my son is 16 months old). Of course he doesn't want it. We have managed to sneak it in a couple times over the past two weeks, but a visit to his grammy's house caused some serious backtracking. He really won't take the sippy cup today at all!

My son started using sippy cups for juice and water since they were first introduced when he was about 4 months old, but kept his bottle for milk. I used those with the leak guards at first so they did not spill easily if he held them upsided down.

sarha was introduced to the sippy cup at 5 months and did great. She still took a bottle for formula until 11 months then it was bye bye bottle she wouldnt have it.

Yeah, 14 to 18 months is a crazy time for changes. They are cutting molars and are generally clingy to begin with. When he is old enough to understand what it means to use a "big boy" cup, that might help. My daughter used a sippy cup from about 4 to 5 months also and would never take a bottle (she was breastfed), so I'm not too sure what to say other than, my ped. just told me that now is a difficult time for new things and changes. I would also just really really positively reinforce and praise him when he uses it - give him a treat, clap your hands, make him smile about using the cup. If he's anything like my daughter, he will think it's a great new trick he's learned and want to do it more.

OMG!
He is so late in the sippy cup game. Jude was breastfed, too until about 9 months, and then the bottle took over. I can't believe you all got your kids off the bottle so early! I feel like such a slacker mom. Seriously though, we need to get on the ball. I like the "big boy"cup idea. We'll see how it goes...

Hi, my son is almost 11 months and he uses his sippy cup every once in awhile I give it to him with juice and water but I still use his bottle bottle for his formula like around nap times and bed time, other than that he uses his sippy cup for like lunch and stuff, it might take a while but he will get used to it.

I started giving the sippy cup to my daugter around 7-8 month, but she only drunk water out of it. No milk. Then whe she turned one I took away the bottle and her pacifier, and she accepted the cup, but it took us about a week. Just keep trying, every single day, he will get used to it.

Averi still wont use her sippy cup a lot. We have tried to use it for juice at lunch and dinner time but she just throws it. She is 1 now so we are late in the game too... :( I just figure when she is ready she will take it. We give it to her all the time and praise her when she drinks from it so I am sure it will click in time!

Since she's already a year, she may want to drink from an actual cup without the lid. Hold it for her so that she get used to it.

Also you may want to get a sippy cup that has a built in straw, she may like it and feel its more of a big girl cup.

My daughter started the sippy cup at 6 months old. We use it only for water and juice and keep the formula in the bottles.
