I work for a private school that teaches foreign languages to children. We teach some homeschooled children, but I was wondering what you look for when trying to find extracurricular activities for your children? Some Homeschooled parents are reluctant, but others love the school. One person told me she didn't like going outside her home because teachers tried to talk them into sending their children to public schools. We don't do that, but I was just curious. My daughter is homeschooling and my sister-in-law did too. I'd like some opinions from those other than family members. Thank you for any information you can provide.
My daughter has participated in Girl Scouts and church groups and my son has participated in the Boy Scout Police Explorers program. We look for something that will give our children a relatively controlled environment with good role models and a change of pace: new faces, different activities than we do at home, a subject my husband and I haven't taught at home.
Where I live people are very supportive of homeschooling and generally don't criticize it. Either they are suportive of it or they are intimidated by me - I hope it's the former!
