PACIFIER
Hi
My son is 2. He used a pacifier as an infant somewhat, Then close to 1 I stopped giving it to him during the day ....I just didnt want him to be like those kids in the stores that are like 3 yrs old.
So anyways he still does use it at night though when I put him to bed it does usually fall out anyways notl ike it is in his mouth all night plus it is the avent 0-3months pacifier which is super small I was lucky in that he never needesd one of those BIG pacifiers in hus mouth. So does anyone see a big deal at this point with him getting it at night only ?? I really dont since like I said it isnt like he has it all day.... thxs

I did the same with my son( who is now 2) by giving him a pacifier only at night. But by 18 months I decided it was time to give it up only because I knew the older he got the harder it would be for him to let go. I think by this age its a habit, rather than a need. I did replace the pacifier with a stuffed teddy bear for him at night to help with the transition which he loves. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

He didnt get too upset, I just explained to him he's a big boy now and that was that. For me I just wanted to get rid of it early on before he got older and it might become a bigger issue. But Whatever you decide is the right thing.

My 2 year old Blaney still takes hers to bed with her and at nap time. she had a tyed tonge and did not develop a strong sucking reflex and the dr recmended that we let her keep it. besides she still wakes up every 4 hours wantinga drink or something. she will jsut pop back in her binkie and suck on it tell she falls asleep. and spits it out in the night. so there is nothing wrong with it. at least they wont have bottle rott.

My kids took the parcifier to fall asleep until they were 4. Then we went to the dentist, the dentist say that it was bad for their teeth and they stopped that same night. it was really an habit because they will drop it 5 minutes later anyway.

My point is that a parcifier is anti-esthetic and make a kid look like a baby but it is very conforting for them!

After all in ancient times (or not so ancient) kids were breastfeeding until they were 4 or 5 and it was simply a conforting act.

I am a big parcifier defender, some kids need it more than others so it is good to identify the right moment to do it.

I would also advice that if your son has a parcifier he should have the right size for his mouth.

A trick that my friend used was to pierce a little hole so it would slowly deflated and not be that appealing anymore.

This is my long parcifier theory,

Blane never realy took on at all until about a month ago when the Dr recomended that we due it to help build up her sucking reflex and help her to form her speech shapes like e-i-o&u. she only gets it at bed time. My husbands bussness partner has a 3year old and she talks with hers in her mouth and I think that is wrong. Melissa
