| How do I get my 20 month old son to stop drinking so much water? He drinks water all day long and he wakes up at least 3 to 4 times a night and asks for his cup. We have tried to change his sippy to a cup without a straw and he have tried to let him cry it out but nothing to seems to work. Please help. |

| Hi! I am sure if it is water that he is drinking it is not going to hurt him, as long as he is eating and drinking some milk. Good luck! |

The water drinking probably won't hurt him...seems like the cup has actually become a source of comfort for him. Some will do this with a bottle or a pacifyer or a stuffed animal or something. Have you tried replacing his cup during the day with something else? Do you think he's actually really thirsty? Maybe have his blood sugar checked? I don't know...is 20months too young for childhood diabetes? Drinking inordinate amounts of water can be a sign. But, it sounds more like a comfort/attachment issue. |

Hi Misty,
I would defintely call your pedi to see if your son's blood sugar should be checked. My dad has diabetes and that is one of the first signs, thirst and frequent urination. Hopefully it is just a comfort issue and if that is the case does he have a blankie or stuffed animal that could take the place of the cup, maybe you can go to the store and let him pick one out. Best of Luck |
