| Hi! My name is Tonya. I am 27 and a stay at home Mommy to my 10 month old son, Charlie. I have just started working with Charlie on teaching him his first signs. I am curious to know what signs other moms started off teaching their children and also fool-proof methods on teaching my baby the signs. I would really appreciate suggestions!!! |

Hi Tonya,
I started teaching my daughter simple signs, like eat, more, mommy, daddy, milk (to nurse) and whatever their favorite foods are..ie.. bananna. I also had the My Baby Can Talk First Signs dvd, I found it very helpful. My daughter now has a 3 of the My Baby Can Talk dvds and loves them, you have to watch them together and sign with the video, it's very helpful. I also bought her the Garlic Press first signs books. She loves these books and now will sit and look threw the books by herself and sign at each object on the page.
I hope this helps.

Hi Tonya, I also watch the PBS signing time show.... it's great. And when Caroline was playing with her "favorite toy of the week" I'd use a sign for that. IE Ball, anytime she pointed, played with etc. |
