I have been thinking of home schooling my child as of late just due to so many obstacles within the crazy Ca school system.....Now I am hearing that our mighty Gov. is going to make it impossible for that to happen........ I have a very bright child, and when we got into a charter school that BOASTED about their attention to acceralerated learners, as much as "normal" learners....I couldnt have been happier, or so I thought. It has sort of become a bit of a nightmare. I feel like they are "dumbing" down my child....I feel helpless, and I am not going to pull him out at this point. The transition wont be good, but I thought if I could just wait it out, then consider homeschooling for 1st grade...I feel frustrated, and alone....Everyone at this school just LOVES it, I dont hate it, I just dont love it. Any thoughts, news, ideas? |

Hi, Cheryl, I am considering homeschooling my kindergartener next year. Go to www.caliva.org this is the program I am going to use. It looks like a great program..Just follow the steps to do the assessment tests. It is run by teachers and is a California charter school. Let me know what you think |

hi cheryl
i read your profile and we are actually neighbors. my daughters are currently going to a private school on tampa and topham. i won't say the name of it on a website for privacy reasons, but i will send you a private message.
please read my post straight from CHN. i will put you intouch with organizations such as west valley homeschoolers so you can get more info. i will also fill you in in what i have been doing this past year to gear up for homeschooling.

by the way cheryl
i know the school you are referring to. initials IA. you are not the only one who has had problems with this school. they actually pulled one of my friend's child out in preschool because of a potty accident. for what it's worth, there is another charter called chime that is not like that at all but IA has a reputation for fostering the feelings you are feeling and consequently left it.

Welcome to the group, Cheryl! I'm glad to see you are already asking questions and getting some of the help you need.
There is no reason to put up with the "dumbing down" of your child. There are plenty of options in CA, including homeschooling, so do your homework and I'm sure you'll find the option that is right for your family. |

Looks like you are getting a lot of good advice and some from those that live in your area! That's great! I hope their suggestions help you. As for homeschooling you can do it. It might be hard in the beginning because you and your child will be adjusting but it's well worth it. Welcome to the group and please feel free to ask any questions you might have. We have all been there and been through a lot of the same things. |
