Disney Family Vacation Question
Hello Everyone,

For our family vacation this year we will be going to Disney World for a week.......the one in Fl. Has anyone been there before? If so do you have any suggestions or recommendations that you would not mind sharing? This will be our first trip there, so any input will be a big help. We only have Garrett and he is 4 1/2, so it should be fun and interesting.

Thanks,
Trish

We also got a DVD from Disney. It has some stuff on it, but I thought I would see if anyone had been there. We will be going in April and we can't wait. We will also be going with my husbands parents............they are taking all of us on the trip.

We had gone this past fall and had a wonderful time. I would suggest bringing good walking shoes, lol. We rented a house about 15 minutes from Disney, it was cheaper and easier for us to eat there instead of out all the time. We also got park passes so that we could go to the different parks on different days (or go back to the same one). We had lots of fun and most of the rides are for the entire family.

We went last October with my 4 1/2 yr old daughter and 1 1/2 yr old son. It was a BLAST!! Definitely the best family vacation we've been on. Here are my suggestions:

1) Get the book Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids. http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Disney-World-Guides/dp/0470098422/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205341706&sr=8-2
We used this book every day to plan our activities (esp. necessary when we had to factor in nap times for the toddler) -- it has EXCELLENT reviews of each of the rides for different age groups and helpful info about things like average line length, show times, best places to see parades, etc. When you use this guide in combination with the information put out by the park, you can plan a low stress, fun visit and not feel like you are missing things by accident.

2) Disney has a little brochure about Disney for Kids that points you in the direction of things that are especially fun for preschoolers. Using that in combination with the book also was very helpful for us. (In fact, we carried these two guides with us all week). You can get this brochure at the parks, at the hotels (any hotel, not just the Disney ones), or at Downtown Disney.

3) Keep a bag with water bottles (you can refill at fountains near the restrooms), camera batteries, sunscreen, and snacks for the long lines. We also gave my daughter her own little fanny pack in which she kept her own inexpensive camera, peppermints that she was allowed to eat at will, kleenex, and chapstick. This kept her busy and happy, reduced the number of times I had to dig into the bag, and reduced the number of pictures of parades that I had to take with my camera.

4) Do not plan to skip Downtown Disney -- it's fun. Take the boat ride there if you can, it's very relaxing. Plan AT LEAST two days at Magic Kingdom and a full day at MGM. We thought Epcot was a little old for our family, that it was more fun for kids over 8, but that was our feeling. We did not need the Park Hopper pass or the Meal plan, esp. as we had an apartment with a small kitchen where we ate breakfast every morning and packed our own fresh fruit for the parks (kids' meals at the parks are totally repetitive and not particularly healthy). Our kids loved the parades and shows, so you should plan on seeing at least some of them. Definitely use the Fast Passes, those helped a lot, even in October.

Have a great vacation! This was a very fun trip for us, one we plan to repeat when the new baby is old enough to enjoy as well.

Hi Trish,

My husband and I also always go to Disney World with his parents. I would recommend going to the character breakfast. Everything there is so amazing, you can't go wrong! Remember it is a vacation, relax, have fun and enjoy!!

Hi Trish,

I grew up in Orlando and spent many many summers going to Disney about $60 ticket price dollars ago, long time ago lol. My family still lives there and I can't wait to take my son He is two and just have not wanted to shell out the money yet because I want him to at least remember his first time going. I would suggest going on there website and checking it you can find differnt promotions they have going on and if you know someone who lives there and is a FL resident you can save on your tickets as well. They have ticket sellers all over the place. International Drive is kind of the tourist spot for Disney goers and usually has many deals. They have hotels, restaurants, Wet'n,wild water park. or if you really have some cash to spend you can stay at one of the resorts on THe Disney premises. I just saw a thing on TV where you can now stay in Walt Disney's very own apartment that he had built for his family to stay in the park when they were there, it looked really neat. Have FUN!

Yippee! I love Disney World!
Go to their website and have them plan the vacation for you...they'll even do it according to what little Garrett would be old enough for!
Oh, and they provide in-room babysitting at their resorts. It's the only way to go!
Do the Magic Your Way Hoppers...that way, you won't be "stuck" at any one park
Have fun!
