still disturbed
Hi ladies,
I know this is a little late but I'm still alillte upset about the conversation that took place on 2/29 about Obama and the Muslim assoc. As a spouse of a Muslim and a mother of two beautiful little Muslimas I am horrified at the racisim and cultural bias that has been displayed here. Just because someone is a Muslim dosen't tie them to terroisim, and just plain evil. Besides the fact that Obamas father is a Muslim is one thing but he never really lived w/ him of attended a madrassa so, how is he a muslim if he never practised the religion. There are alot on Christians esp. on thr Middle East who have Arabic/Muslim names. You know there are lots of Arab christians. And about 9/11 I'm sorry for your loss but because some nut cases decided to wage war dosent warrent descrimination of a whole religion. If you don't alreadt know this , the Arabs only make up a fraction of the 1 billion Muslims on this planet. Islam is a peaceful religion. I've never seen a group that gives and does charity like Islam. Why is it so hard to seperate Islam and it's followers from crazys that happen to be Muslims and Arabs who just plain don't like our countries policys and ways? Do we say Christian terriosts or Jewish terrioste when those folks go on a rampage-no, I don't think so! I could go on and on about that.Do you want me to list all of the reports of humanrights issues and the plain genocide that Isreal has inflicted on the Palestinians! We don't call that terrosim do we?! Do you here anybody talking about those crazy christian fundalmentalists( You know who you are!). Lets get real hear and really think about what your saying and for the better part what are you teaching your kids. Do you want to raise biggots, I doubt it. So, please do the world so good (thats you Mz. DJM) and educate yoursefl!

Thank you. I am however, entitled to feel how I feel, just as you are entitled to feel how you feel.

I also want to clarify that I am not walking around handing out hate flyers or organizing meetings against Muslims, I just do not agree with having someone of a Muslim background in office. There are still people who feel that way about blacks and women, I am not saying it is right, I wish I didn't feel that way, but I do. I do not feel it would be benefitial, but I already stated how I felt, and I am being honest about how I feel, because that was what the topic was about.

You have to practice Islam to be a Muslim. I don't know how much clearer that can be. It's just a religion not a phisiological trait. My parents are Catholics, that dosen't make me a Catholic then, now or ever!! There is no excuse for bias,I feel so sorry for you and the walls you're building.
P.S.There are no physical "Muslim" traits so beware of whom you sit next to you never know.

I am happy to have friends from all walk of life, religions and races. My point is when you know people personally, you know their stories and their sufferings, you forget about all the stereotype about a culture and you realize that people are basically the same across the world. They all want to have peace and live decently.
A difficult political situation can not be translated in a dislike for an entire group of people. Let separate the politics by the individuals

Just look at my beautiful babies, how could you hate them? Don't they deserve fair judgement in this world? Do they look like they have bombs strapped to their backs? Would you sit next to them on a plane? Maybe putting a face out here will make you think twice about how you really feel. This is how I feel as a mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about all of my spelling errors in my first post, but I was so angry that I was shaking!

The last thing I am going to say about how I feel on this matter. I do not hate your children, nor do they look as though they have bombs strapped to their back, but neither did the men who were terrorists, because if they had looked like terrorists, they would never have been able to blend into society. I guess that is where my problem stems from, and I fully admit, it is a problem I have, for associating the religion with terrorists. We never questioned the terrorists because they did not look like terrorists, they looked like the average run of the mill person. Now if you question the average run of the mill person from the middle east, you are profiling. I am not looking to get into a pissing match with anyone, I replyed to a post with how I honestly felt.

Well sister, you opened a huge can of worms. I'm going to drop this on my end because this obviously is going nowhere fast. But as I clearly remember, none of us were prepared, not even the gov't. They were asleep at the wheel and they'd been warned many times. Blame Bush that jack-ass deserves it.

(((((((((((((((Laura))))))))))))))) I don't know what to say except that not everyone is an ignorant biggot. There are probably more Christian terrorists (yes, people that blow up abortion clinics ARE terrorists, and there are probably other sorts of Christian terrorists in the US, but that is the example that jumps to mind right now) than Muslim terrorists in this country, but as long as the Christian majority writes the news stories, the BS biggotry and racism will likely continue. It sucks, but that's the way things are. It is only by continuing to try to educate the ignorant that things even have a chance to change.

Laura, kudos for bringing a real practical example based on your own family to this conversation that deteriorated into something of a hate rant. I responded in the other thread that some of the fear-mongering was uncalled for, however you can only hope to inform and motivate people to open their minds, you can do nothign to force them.

I just want you to know that I believe that you are one hundred percent right and it is so refreshing to hear your opinions! Saying that all muslims are crazy, extremist terrorists like Osama bin Ladin or Sadam Hussein is like saying all Christians are like David Koresh or those wack jobs that blow up abortion clinics. Every religious group has their extreme fanatics and people should educate themselves (and their children) on different religions rather than making ignorant presumtions. It is widely rumoured in Washington that the information circulated regarding Obama's association with Islam was generated by the Clinton campaign, and as a former supporter of her (and her husband's) it infuriates me that she would prey on peoples ignorance and fear regarding Islam since 9/11. It should be beneath her and is an injustice to all Muslim Americans. (Many of whom also lost their lives in 9/11 and many who are sacrificing their lives fighting for our freedom overseas.)
