okay, my son is 18 months old and we tried three times before this one to get rid of the bottle, but he wouldn't do it. finally, we just gave up at around 15 months and let him have a bottle at night and he gave it up on his own. i think it's because he was eating enough during the day, but i am not sure exactly why or whatever, but we were tired of the crying and battling it so we just kind of thought, whatever. but now, even if he wakes up in the night, it's not because he wants a bottle.

My son is 13 months and our pedi recommended night weaning at 12 months... I'm still BFing, and I guess I just don't have the heart to do it. I have to agree with Lalitha, that when they are ready they stop on their own.
I've read a great article on it by Dr. Sears. I have decided not to push the issue (trust me- I'm dying for a good nights sleep, but...). He doesn't need the nutrients at night anymore, but, he obviously still wants the nurturing. Soon enough he won't and then I'll miss it. I have faith that he'll stop when he's ready :)

sarah was easy. at 11 months she just wouldnt take one. she was only getting one a day by then and that was at night, before bed, but one night she just wouldnt take it. She was using a sippy at 5 momnths, so maybe that is what helped. sorry I dont have a horror story about getting rid of it.

We finally got rid of the bottle at 18 mo. I kept putting it off because I didn't want to deal with it. Come to find out it wasn't that bad. I hid all of the bottles so he wouldn't see them. The first couple of nights he woke up wanting one but I heated a sippy of milk instead. No real tantrums, probably because he was just as tired as I was. He still likes his milk before bed, but I only give him water if he wakes in the night. Try buying a couple of new sippy cups to get her excited.
