New to Homeschooling
Hello everyone,
I just joined the group today. I am a SAHM to two wonderful children (Ashley 3 and David 18 months). Ashley will be turning 4 in August. After discussing it with my husband we have decided that homeschooling her for preschool is our best option. Depending on how that goes we will decide if we will continue her on into elementary etc.
Looking at all of the options out there, I am a little overwhelmed right now. I was hoping some of you would be able to tell me what you feel is the best program for preschool.
I also was hoping for advice on how best to structure the teaching I guess. How many hours a day should I work with her? Right now we sit down for about an hour a day while her brother takes his nap. How do you structure the day?

Thank you for all of your help. I look forward to getting to know all of you :-)

The best program for preschool is likely already what you're doing. Play with her. Read with her. Take her fun places so that she can explore her world.

Hi Toni,
When my son was on a preschool level I gave him a lot of learning toys. Leap frog is a really good choice of toys to use. Even though it didn't seem like I was doing much teaching at the time my son was in fact learning all needed to just by playing with the toys. I also bought a couple of leap frog videos that taught him phonics. There are also now leap frog games you can play with your daughter. To me preschool is more about allowing your child to learn through play than it is setting down with them and teaching.
Good luck!

For preschool I recommend less structuring and sitting and more exploring and doing. Mailbox Magazine (I get you can Google it) has some great learning activities.

I agree with what everyone else has said. Preschool really doesn't need to be structured. I am sure all that you are doing with her now is great! Remember too that every thing can be a learning experience. All you have to do too is do a Google Search for preschool things and you can find a lot of fun learning things to do with her. This way you aren't spending money on something that might not be all that great. If you do decide to homeschool after preschool you will find your nitch and do what you feel is best. There is nor right or wrong curriculum (or no curriculum for some) it's what works best for you and your family. Welcome to the grouop!!!
