My daughter has, unfortunately, been in daycare since she was 8 weeks old. I would love to be home with her, but financially, I just can't do it. Although, I must admit that I think it is great for her social development. |

My son is not in day-care, and I'm thinking about preschool when he's 5 years old, kindergarden when he's 6. |

My son is 22 months and I just started him in daycare about a month ago. He is loving it. He only goes three days a week so i think that is good. I didn't have to go back to work, I kind of wanted to get out of the house and get him some time to play with other kids. So I was able to go back part time to the same place that I was working full time before I had him. |

I am planning on starting my son in preschool around 2-1/2 years. He is 16 months now and is with his grandparents during the day while I am working. I went back to work when he was 3 months old for 4 days a week. I am hoping preschool will help him be more sociable and help him adjust better when it comes time for kindergarten. |

Brooke, I am so happy you said that, my son has the oppertunity to start at a very nice preschool next fall (he will be 2 1/2) registrration is next Monday. He will be going on Tues thurs from 9-11:30 and I really want him to go but everyone around me is giving me a hard time about starting him so early. I have worked part time nights since he was about 8 weeks old and he has only been watched by family. I have tried taking him to the nursery at the church and at the YMCA when I work out and he flips out. i want him to get used to be without family or myself and I think that starting him in preschool next fall will be very beneficial but you know how hard it is to make a decision when everyone around you says it is a bad idea. |

I have thought about starting sarah this fall but hubby is not in agreement, so we will postpone and hopefully next year. She just turned two. and is very smart. She can already recognize the whole alphabet, and we are starting on recognizing numbers. I just think it would be good for to socialize more with kids her age., but I would miss the time with her also. Parenting is so hard with all these decisions, it is enough to make me crazy, I dont know how I will do it when she starts kindergarten. |

I have a son who is in 1st grade, and through his school I became aware of a program called HIPPY ( Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters). My 3 yr old daughter loves the program. She has a very nice "teacher" who comes to see her once a week with a packet of information and she even has homework! It's really helping her fine motor skills as well as her speach and she's even started reading! Kudos to this fantastic program!!! If anyone is interested in checking it out go here...www.hippyusa.org. |

Kyleen- I definetly do not think it is too early. It's not like you are going to take him for a full or even half day, every day of the week. I am hoping to find someting similar to hat you describe for my son next year. I think a few days a week for a few hours would be great. It will get him more adjusted to being with other kids. I have heard that being with other kids helps with their language skills too. I don't think there could be anything bad about it. Good luck and listen to your heart and not what everyone else is telling you. You know what is best for your child. |

Lexi will not ever go to a daycare.Lexi will go to a preschool at a reg school at 4 and age 5 will go to kindergarten. There are too many diseases floating around at daycares.Too many of the ppl I meet at the kids schools who pick their older children up complain constantly about sickness,Diarhea,Chest colds, and the worst is constant ear infections that accompany ear tubes. My school age kids bring enough home because the new school they go to dont clean the classrooms or restrooms properly after restroom time.Id hate to have to live w daycare diseases as well. |

My son started two months ago at 16 month. He loves it. However since he started in the middle of cold/flu season he did come home sniffling soon after never really being sick before. It's an unfortunate reality with places like daycare as although most policies indicate that sick children are not allowed a sniffle here or there is not usually enough to make some parents keep their children at home and before you know it the entire facility has the cold! |

That is true about the sniffles but I have found that my son (or any chid really) is prone to that type of exposure really anywhere (the nearest restaurant playland, the library, mommy and me classes etc). Children should be exposed to those things in order to build their immune system. |

I started my daughter at 9 weeks old. I had no choice actually. I'm a single mom who unfortunately had to go back to work to pay the bills. She does get sick all of the time. Her first "cold" was at 14 weeks old and it was RSV. We've had diarrhea about 4 times, ear infection 3 times, about 15 colds in the last 14 months and pinkeye twice. However most kids that go to daycare are very much immune to those bugs by the time they reach kindergarten when they really need to be in school to learn. Its hard to see her sick when she's so little but I would prefer to have her missing daycare than kindergarten. It's really a tradeoff. |
