I just read a blog where a lady was asking what type of convertible car seat would be best for her 5 month old. So, I went and looked up "convertible car seat" and it looks like the forward facing toddler seat...is a toddler seat and convertible car seat the same thing? I thought that your child had to be like a year old before they could face forward. Help please. Can anyone clear this whole subject up for me?
Convertible means it can rear face while the child still needs to rear face, then the same seat can be turned around to forward-face in order to accomodate a growing toddler. The height/weight ranges for forward or rear facing vary from seat to seat. We got my daughter a convertible at 6 months (installed rear facing) and it should last her until she's 50 lbs or so (by then it will be forward facing of course). Booster seat is a forward-facing-only seat.
a convertible car seat can be used forward facing and backward facing...usually they are the same but there are some toddler seat that are just forward facing...if it says convertible then it can be used both ways...if the kid is to big for an infant seat then like our case our doctor told us to get a convertible seat so we can use it before and after he turns one...hope this helped
