Hi Ladies!
I went to a MOPS meeting this morning and we watched a video from a hillarious woman at a MOPS convention. She mentioned having a revelation about her children. Her son had been stressing her out, mostly because their personalities were so similar. She said she realized God didn't give her children so that she could "fix" them into what she wanted them to be. He gave her children so He could fix HER into what He wanted HER to be!
It's so true when you think about it...our children have these little tempraments of their own. Dislikes, likes, fears, needs...even at a young age they begin to show us who they are. Some are independent, others need constant attention. Our job as moms is to love them unconditionally, and gently guide them with God's word (it's a gentle rod not a hammer! LOL) and discipline into the adults God wants them to become. Behavior we can mold, but temprament comes from God. Their precious little spirits need to be protected. It's easy to lose it when our little ones fuss, and fuss for hours on end. It's hard to stay calm when your 2 year old has colored your band new bedspread with Sharpie marker! (Oh yes, I've been there!) Let's be careful to always try our best to be gentle and loving even when we are at our wits end. Moms need time outs too, develop ways to cool down and keep perspective. One suggestion today was playing the "I love you more than...game". Just as you find yourself about to blow, tell your child"I love you more than butterfingers...your child will in return say "I love you more than cookies.." etc. ect. Try starting at your child's head and thank God for their hair (that never seems to want to lay down for family pictures, ) and then down to their eyes (that always seem to light up when they see their Daddy come home.) By the time you get to their shoulders, if should have you smiling. It helps me to know I'm not alone it this battle. Who wants to be the mom who yells, or is always mad? No one...some of our own mother's might have been short or sarcastic with us. We didn't like it, our kids won't either. Patience and firm, gentle direction communicate love to our children. Afterall, that's how God works on "fixing" us!!
Have a blessed day! Amber |
