Hi,
I have a 5 month old son and we are planning to put him in day care in a couple of months...We had a nanny till now, as I was working 3 days a week.
Any suggestions on what we should be looking for when selecting a day care? Also, anyone from Bergen County, NJ area recommend a day care? |

my son is almost one and he has been in a in home daycare since he was 6 months old. when we started looking asked around to other mothers, looked online (craiglist) for daycares in our area...called around and visited them...definetly ask for reference and call them...with me i went with my gut...if i didn't think the place was right for my kid or he did really interact with the provider they were a no...it is hard to find a good daycare provider but when you do it is a great...i still worry about him but i know he is having fun...hope this helps |

My son is 17 1/2 months and started daycare about 6 weeks ago. Luckily we found a decent place a block away with a program that keeps the kids active, nterested and learning while playing. I agree with the post before that is was a bt of a gut feeling visiting the establishment and getting to know about the program.
My son seems to love it, he comes home with his art proudly ready to be displayed. He is also now speakng so many new words at a phenomenal rate. He's been understandng even fairly complex instructions for a while but in the last few weeks his vocab has expanded to more than 25 common words he uses frequently! He's also starting to count and say his abc but from the middle lol. He loves "4, 5, 6" and "c e i o " as letters.

I would suggest checking out your daycare first, spend a few hours there and see how the provider acts with the kids, and yours as well. I would also check with the state to make sure that they are licensed and have a good rep. You should be able to go through like HRDC (if you have one there in NJ) or some other state funded programs, if they don't have access they will tell you how to find it. I think in home day cares are the best, there are less children and more caregivers. Be very picky, and yes go with your gut!! Hope you find someone you are happy with. Good Luck |
