Is it possible to bring your milk back
Hi everyone. I have a 12 week old, and I tried to breastfeed when he was born, and I wasnt producing enough milk. I was pumping every 3 hours, but my son was hospitalized and I had to stop pumping. Is there any way possible to get your milk back??

Yes. I don't know details because I've never had to do it, but your local La Leche League could probably help you. I know there are women that have never had children stimulate lactation when adopting though, so it seems like you should have it easier than that!

I had found this article that I thought may help you but I agree that you should contact Le Leche or a Lactation Consultant. My hospital had a Lactation Consultant on staff part-time and she was a huge help when my 1st child would not latch on and I struggled so much with nursing her. Hope this helps you.

Bringing back full milk production depends on the age of your baby, the amount of time that has passed since weaning, and how forgiving your breasts are! Is your baby willing to latch on to your breast and suck for at least a couple of minutes? If so, then start by nursing her every two hours during the day and evening. Night nursing seems to have a strong influence on milk production, so consider sleeping next to your baby so that she will nurse often during the night. Of course, you will need to supplement with formula after most feedings until your milk supply gets back up to speed and is able to provide everything your baby needs. Offer her an ounce less formula than you typically do so she nurses often.

If your baby is no longer willing to latch on, consider renting a fully automatic electric pump with a double pump kit. See a lactation consultant about a nursing supplementer, which delivers formula to your baby through a soft tube while the baby is latched on to your breast, to help entice your baby to nurse.

Also check out Kellymom.com - I found this site because I had the opposite problem as you, and needed help in those early months.
There are some great tips on stimulating/maintaining your milk supply, regarding pumping, herbs you might consider (CHECK WITH YOUR DR. FIRST of course), and lots of simple nutrition steps that might help (eating oatmeal, drinking lots of water, getting enough rest, etc.).
