Hi there, My daughter is 2 years old. She has had a cough and runny nose for about a week. I took her into the doc the other day because her cough had gotten so bad. He said that there was not much I could do, humidifier, Vick's and what not. He also said that she had a little bit of fluid in her ears, but that other then that they looked fine.
Well, last night she spiked a fever, and this morning she was screaming about her right ear. I have already taken her to the walk in clinic. That doc said that she had fluid in both ears, but that other then that her left ear looked fine. Then he said that her right ear (the one she has been fussing about) is red and inflamed, but not a full blown infection. He said to give her Tylenol and bring her back in a couple of days if its not better.
So, now that you are all caught up, I need to know of any other tricks that might help with some of the pain and discomfort. This is the first time she has ever had an ear infection, and my son was under 2 when he had one, and that was almost 7 years ago, so I am a little out of practice. Any advise or tips would be much appreciated!!
Thanks!!

We got the same thing going on here. Give her some Triaminic decongestant thin strips. They contain phenylephrine which will take the pressure off the ears. There are also some thin strips that have a cough suppressant in them in addition to the decongestant....I gave those at night. Make sure you DO NOT give them together one or the other at least 4 hrs apart. You could also ask the doc to give a dosage for a product called Rescon GG this is for ear pressure and fluid. She did wind up with an ear infection after running fever(103+) for 6 days straight, but with the virus that is going around I was not surprised. By the way all the triaminic thin strip products have a dosage for a 2 yr old. Best of luck! |

Oh they also have mucinex for children dosage right on the box for a 2 year old. Helps to thin out mucus. This worked wonders for the little one. |

I wouldn't give her any meds without a Dr consent, do you have a regular Dr that you can call? One thing that might help is elevating her mattress, they told me to do this with my son and it seemed to help a little. Put a adult pillow under her crib mattress or bed mattress, it takes away some of the pressure from the fluid in her ear. They have changed things recently to where they won't hardly give a child under two anything but if she's two it seems like they would give her an antibiotic. You can alternate Tylenol and motrin this is what our Dr has us do, My son just turned two. But I would still talk with a Dr you are comfortable with. Good Luck |

our doc said to get a vaporizor and to have him drink more water and chew gum. the problem with medications is that it can make things worse in the long run. |

Put a warm compress on her ear, this will help with the pain. She'll probably be in more pain while lying down, so elevate her bed as much as she's comfortable with. |

That is going around here and hubby got it last week.He finally went to the dr. after he woke up and couldnt see ;he was in so much pain.He was so bad; that they had to irrigate his ear ,give him antibiotics ,and ear drops. They told him that at first sign of it, he should have been to the dr.Do not let it go ;its dangerous for you or your children to not take care of it immediately. So he came home and I said ;ohhh hmmmm, I was right. He growled and went to bed. |
