Later this year, a book will be published by Penguin call The Baby Fat Diet. This book is written by two moms and practicing Registered Dietitians. The authors, Shara and Monica would love to include feedback and stories from this group and they are asking this question:
What was the hardest part of losing your pregnancy weight?
If you'd like to participate, post your answers by replying to this pots. The authors will offer a free copy of the book to anyone who's story is used.

After my husband and I had our daughter it was a little diffiult for me to lose the baby weight. I was always told that if I didn't put too much on that as soon as I had the baby I would pretty much lose all that I had gained. What a lie. I did lose about 12 pounds within the first week of having the baby. However, after that it was sort of like brick wall in my way. I would only eat when I would have a few minutes to myself and the rest of the time I was tending to my daughter. I ate as helathy as possible, but I didn't ever listen to the rule that youshould sleep when your baby sleeps if you can. I was always worried about the house looking decent or the laundry being done. It wasn't until she was about 8 months old that I started to nap with her during the day, and then I was hooked. However at about 6 months I started to go outside with my daughter more and I would take her to the gym with me and only then did I lose the rest of the wieght. It was hard, but I managed to do it. Now I struggle to lose the 15 pounds that I would like to lose to be at an ideal weight. I am waiting for the weather to get warm so that my daughter and I can spend all day outside and I can focus on the two of us staying fit. Thank you for the opportunity to share this. |

I am still fighting it. I do not keep junk food in my house, and even in the cold, I bundle my daughter up put her in the carriage, and I walk at least a mile almost everyday. It is like I am stuck, like my body chemistry or metabolism changed. I only put on like 20 pounds when I was pregnant, I was athletic build before, I was never really skinny, but now, I really dislike my body and am getting super frustrated. I have lost some, but I really hate my stomach at this point, I can't seem to get any muscle tone back there and it is like there is extra skin just hanging there. |

The hardest part of losing the baby weight for me has been finding the time to exercise. I used to go to the gym five to six times a week. Now that I have a baby, and I'm not comfortable leaving a six month old with the gym's daycare, I have to get creative. I wear wrist and ankle weights around the house. I power walk through the mall like a mad woman. I put my daughter in her exersaucer and use my eliptical machine for the 15 minutes at a time that she'll let me not hold her. I can only get her to nap in the mornings sometimes by putting her in the carseat while I take a shower. Once I'm finished cleaning all the baby puke and whatnot off of me from the night before, I work out then, because that is my only chance at a solid hour, if I'm lucky. Then it is right back to smelling not so great. My daughter is six months old, and I'm still working on it. I've read a little about baby yoga, and I'm looking into baby and me swim times. It's just hard to get in some cardio, and hard to have the energy to do it. I just keep telling myself that if I get up and do it, I'll have more energy to play with my daughter and we'll both be happier. |

The hardest part about losing the baby weight is twofold- finding the time to exercise and having the energy to exercise. It seems that all exercise programs that I have found need you to exercise for 45 or more minutes and simply put with a 10 week old it is not possible for me to have a block of time to do that every day. I am adjusting to becoming a new mother learning how to use my time wisely and it is hard to know when I will have enough time to dedicate to exercising for 45 minutes. On the other hand, adjusting to not getting enough sleep is also having an effect on my energy levels, which then affects my ability to exercise. I know that once I get Sophia on a schedule and get into some sort of routine I will have time to exercise (hopefully) and that should boost my energy levels.
Going hand in hand with energy levels is eating properly but it seems when I sleep deprived and hungry that whatever is the quickest to fill me up will do, which it seems is usually junk food. I am not really knowledgeable about nutrition and whenever I try to eat healthy and I find some sort of diet in a magazine it usually includes foods I do not eat like cheese, and I cannot stick to it.
Maybe my biggest obstacle in weight loss is actually me! I think I need to just try changing small things at first and go from there but I know that I want a quick fix which hurts my chances of sticking to any program.
