Cloth Diapers
My sister-in-law is currently pregnant and wants to wash her own. I use Baby Care Diaper Service so I only know re: pre-folds and diaper services.....Tell me your good (and bad) expereinces. Should she use Pre-folds or All-In-Ones? What brands do you suggest? How many do you have?

Thanks,

Celeste

I use bum genius and have a blueberry minky pocket diaper and a bumkins and thristies AIO, for an newborn many pp suggest using prefolds cause they fit them better - for an older baby I think its a matter of preferance to what you want - I love my pocket diapers but have never used prefolds.
As for washing them I have 13 right now for a newborn you will need more esp if you don't want to wash everyday think about how many dipes you use in one day and add 2 for extra then multiply that number by at least 2or3 for a couple days supply. I use purex free and clear, a cold wash with 1/4 cup detergent (about half a cap full) or if really soild a presoak and wash - then a hot wash no detergent and 1-2 rinses checking for soap suds if you see suds you need another rinse. Then dry on med heat during the summer I will line dry them - the sunlight also helps to get out stains.
I like the one size ones that "grow" with your child in the long run they are cheaper so you don't have to buy multiple sizes
The diaperpin is a great place to find info also Diaper swappers and then their is also a cloth diaper group on here to go and find info.
Hope this helps sorry so long let me know if you have more ? and I will try to answer them

Great info Lauren, she basically summed it all up. I love love love my prefolds and i use bummis super whisper wraps. I have some kushies AIOs for my 14 month old, but I'm not too kean on them. They are good for at home throughout the day, but I have just fallen in love with my prefolds and bummis covers. I wash all of mine also, basically the same as Lauren, but about once a week I do a wash with tea tree oil or distilled white vinegar to "sanitize" them, and it softens them up and takes out any extra smell that may have come from really soiled diapers. I am planning on buying more prefolds for my next baby due in September and also I am planning to buy some Swaddlebees AIOs and some BumGenius 2.0s AIOs for my husband to use more so with both the newborn and my 14 month old. He is a little intimidated by the prefolds, but has been getting more comfortable with them. But if I want him to change more diapers with two babies he said that he wants AIOs for his personal ease, so my friend sells Swaddlebees and BumGenius and she has convinced me to try both. I have about 24 Pre folds for each size, I plan to have 24 infant size, and I already have 24 Premium and 24 toddler prefolds, and about 10-12 bummis covers in each size. I will have about 5 AIOs in each size for Daddy to have a decent amount for the occasion that he changes them. I do a wash of diapers about 2 times a week, rarely do I do 3 loads a week with the large supply I have. I bought the ones that I have now second hand for a great deal, and she may be able to find some great second hand deals on line or in her area some where from another mom. But I am going to have to buy the infant diaprs new because I didn't start my first son until he was 6 months old so I didn't buy th infant.

I could write a book on this. Instead, I will send you to http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/ . They have all the information there that anyone could need or want. I use diaper service quality chinese prefolds and add a hemp doubler at night.

I love the Blue Penguin POSO covers. http://www.bluepenguin.biz/covers.html

I wash diapers according to the directions on the greenmountain site.
