Hello All,
We just found out that we will be moving to the Pittsburgh area in the spring, which probably means April. Does anyone have any advice for us being new to the area? I realize that there are many towns in the Pittsburgh area, can anyone tell me which towns have more to offer?
Thank You Denise |

Welcome to the area Denise. We too just moved to Pittsburgh and had a baby so I am sorry that I am not too much help in the surrounding areas. Hopefully, your move goes smoothly and someone out there can give you a heads up...and me too.

Thanks for the welcome Lisa and congratulations on the baby. I have a 4yr old daughter and a 2yr old son. I am hopeful that the area we choose also has something to offer our children. I have heard good things about Fox Chapel and Mt. Lebanon does anyone have an opinion on these areas? |

Hi Denise - I Live in the north hills of pittsburgh, it is a great area, great school districts, and lots of attactions. Search for cities like North Hills, Ross Township, McCandles, Gibsonia, Hampton. Or I would check out North Hills school district or Hampton School District. Good Luck! |

Hi Denise,
Being a life-long resident, I've lived in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. Currently, I live east-of the City and have lived here in Greensburg for most of my life. You'll find growing communities that I know of North and East (where I live). Plenty of good school districts in either direction. Less taxes in Westmoreland county. I'll admit our roads are never as clear as the City in winter. But, all-in-all, we get by. Plenty of family activities and places to go in and around the City. Children's museum, Zoo, parks and other attractions. I hope this helps. And Welcome to Pittsburgh! |

Hi Denise,
Welcome to pittsburgh, I haven't been in pittsburgh for a long time but have been here about 2 years. I live inside the city so I don't know much about the surrounding areas except pleasant hills and west mifflin. They are both good areas. However if you can stay in the suberbs, less taxes and better schools. I have to live in the city because my husband is a police officer for pittsburgh. Believe me if I could I'd live outside the city limits.. South Hills is very good too they have a great park.

Hi. Do you like small towns or the city? Do you like rural areas? There is everything around here. Sewickley or Beaver are great little towns. Fox Chapel is closer to the city, so is Avalon. Basically anywhere you go you are 30 mins to anything. |

Thank you to every one,
Thanks to all who have responded to my original post. We just purchased a home in Deer Lakes and we are very excited about it. We will be moving at the end of April, so there is no time to waste, I have lot's of packing to do. If any one is familiar with Deer Lakes, I would love to know about some local playgrounds, indoor play places for kids, what is the local mall or any other activities fun for summer.
Thanks again Denise |

Congratulations on the move! I live in Hampton, so I don't know that much about activities in Deer Lakes. The Deer Lakes area is beautiful! |
