Hi all. I am Elena, mama to 14 mo. old Xavier. We practice RU (radical unschooling) as a childrearing method and are planning to unschool Xavi. My DH is not completely on board with the unschooling, but I am completely convinced that this is the best thing for our child. In other words, Xavi will go to school over my dead body. LOL
I'm currently reading "Parenting A Free Child: An Unschooled Life" by Rue Kream. This has really helped me to know that this is what I want for my child(ren).
What is radical unschooling? How does your family (parents) feel about that? My parents (my mom spefically) are against us homeschooling but I am still not faltering.
Oh, my name is Alyssa and my daughter, Sadie is 27 months. We are planning on homeschooling. I think I would still like to read other books on unschooling so thanks for the suggestion. My husband is on board with homeschooling but we haven't talked with his parents. He wants to wait until we start 'pre-schooling' her, even though we unschool now.
RU is hard to explain, but it basically means that your children are your creative partners--which means that you don't have the right to control them. There are some great unschooling sites that will help you to learn about unschooling and RU.

And here is a great site about creative parenting: http://www.enjoyparenting.com/
Would love to discuss more with you! Sadie is a lucky little girl. I know many unschooled kids and they are so bright, enthusiastic, and inquisitive. It is as if there is a light inside of them that hasn't been extinguished by school.
