Breastfeeding during pregnancy
Does anyone have any experience with nursing during pregnancy? I am a mom to a nineteen month old and now 10 weeks pregnant. I have planned all along to nurse until he self weaned and have done quite a bit of research about continuing to nurse while pregnant and there do not seem to be issues that should interfere...except the opinion of my ob/gyn...I'm switching to a more supportive provider. Just curious of others' experiences and how those around you reacted and how you dealt with it. Thanks!

Hi Gia ~ I nursed through all of my pregnancies except for the last one. They are 11 years apart! I never had a problem and my children did not mind the changes in the milk as it became closer to delivery time. Some children will self wean because consistency and taste of milk will change. It changes to colostrum closer to due date. 5 out of 6 kids did this for me, transitioned well to tandem nursing. Nothing negative from me, all very positive. Loved tandem nursing as well! Good luck!! Lisa
P.S. Feel free to ask away if you have more questions.

gia I am currently 10 weeks pregnant also and am still nursing my 14 month old son. I read a great book called mothering your nursing toddler that is available through la leche league international and it answered all of the questions I had and more. If I had chosen to us the same obgyn I had with my first I would have had the same issue you have with yours but thankfully I have been able to find a midwife who will be assisting me through this pregnancy and she is very supportive of tandem nursing. My mother nursed all of us(there are 10 in all) into toddlerhood and through all of the pregnancies she had so I never had any real doubt that it is ok. I have only read and hears great things from those that supprt it and ignore those that are jegatve about it.
