Hi there!
Hi. My name is Amber and I have two daughters. My 6 year old daughter has mild autism and is currently in kindergarten.

Hi Amber. My son will be starting kindergarten in September. So how was it for her? What are the expectations in her class?

Well I was really blessed with her school. They had something called developmental kindergarten and they didn't expect much because honestly they can't expect much from a child whos autistic. I know a regular kindergarten they would like them to know their alphabet, can count to 10, know their colors, know their name address and phone number but Abrial basically just knew her ABC's and she knew her colors and could count to 10 but she didn't know her address or phone number and she didn't know how to write her name but she's come a long way with that. So she started preschool with the early intervention program and they decided for kindergarten this other school would be better so she started developmental kindergarten there and next year they think she's doing so good that she will be in regular kindergarten class. She's not really ready for 1st grade yet but they think she's ready for a regular kindergarten class so we'll see. But if possible you maybe need to ask the school he will go to if they have classes like that. Or even ask his preschool. Not much was expected of Abrial, I mean she wasn't even potty trained, not for a lack of trying, but that eventually came and her teachers were so great with her about it. So I'm not sure what might be expected there but since he's in preschool I'm sure they are helping with some of those things.
