Cutting toe nails
Anyone know the best way to get the toenails cut? My daughter will usually let me clip her fingernails, she thinks it's a game. But i've recently been trying it with the toes. For some reason they just now started needing to be trimmed. She's 9 months old, and this is the first time that they've gotten long enough to trim. But the problem is she won't hold still at all. I think i'm tickling her too much. She sleeps in footed pj's so i can't exactly do it while she sleeps, and during the day she's so mobile that she won't hold still long enough. I tried holding her to get it done but that made her scream bloody murder and she was pushing against me so much i was afraid i would cut her. Any idea's on how to get it done??

Have someone else distract her with a toy or song (Daddy or Grandma?), or give her something to busy her hands with if you have to do it alone(keys, cell phone, remote are hugely desired items by my 9 month old) . I know TV is not recommended for babies, but it might distract her long enough to get them cut without her even noticing.

I almost always do it when my son sleeps...I just make sure he is wearing something so his toes are accessible on those days. It is so much easier, since I am worried I will cut him otherwise, esp with the unpreditable jerks when he is awake.

try it when she's in her high-chair. :)

I trim my daughters finger and toe nails while she is napping, she too wears footed pj's at night. I tried to do her fingers while she was awake, but she just wants to play with the clippers. I have to trim them every other day, they grow so fast.

I do my son's while he watches TV. He is not huge into TV and I don't let him watch it often, so when I do sit him on my lap and turn on something for him. Normally Backyardigins, it captures his attention for a few minutes. I have a couple friends who told me they do their babies when they are sleeping in their car seats. They just carry the clippers in the car.

I always cut my daughters nails when she's taking a nap or at night. She moves a little because it tickles her feet. lol. But try cutting during a nap :-)

Hey ladies,

Not sure if this will be of any help or not...
As I was leaving the hospital after having a c-section, we had to attend an hour long class on the basics of infant care. One thing we were told was to not give water to children until after they turned one year. The doctor said it could dilute the babies electrolite balance and potentially cause problems. On that note, check with your pediatricians.
