I have a question about the step between pre-k and k, do you feel your kids are ready for it?

It is not so much the academic part that worries me but the sit down part. Do you feel they expect too much from 5 years old kids?

I taught kindergarten and first grade for 5 years before becoming a SAHM and I have to say they DO expect WAY TOO MUCH from 5-7 year olds. First grade was very academic and seemed almost like 2nd grade, while kindergarten was losing centers (housekeeping, blocks, etc) and becoming like a mini first grade. When I was in kindergarten I remember PLAYING the entire time I was there. I think those in charge of creating curriculum (which I have to say from my own experience, was made up of individuals who have never taught in a classroom) forget the learning through play is so important at this age.
