Moms on Politics
What an exciting group!!!! As loving moms I think it is very important to be involved in politics for our future as well as the future of our kids! I too am registered independant and have yet to decide who to vote for. I really like a couple of the democratic candidates until this past week or so. All the petty fighting and bickering is very immature and not a sign of a great leader...we shall see in the months to come.

Hi Tina,

I have a friend suggesting that the three of them should present a ticket: Edward president, Obama Vice-president and Clinton, Secretary of State. In a way it make sense and it would be a winning ticket! (Of course it will never happen)

That is an interesting idea...wonder if they can all get along and work together? The more minds we can put together the better

I have a question that I would like you all to think about and answer honestly. Does it not bother anyone that there is a man (Barack Obama) running for office who will not salute the american flag? It also bothers me that he will not swear on the bible, as every other president has done before. He will swear on the Koran. The fact that he will not pledge to the flag of a country he hopes to be the leader of does not sit well with me at all. Religion is one thing but our flag is the symbol of this country.

Why would you think he would not salute the flag?
The flag is not a religious symbol, it is a national symbol. As far as I know, Barack Obama is not Muslim, his stepfather was and he lived in Indonesia in his childhood but I really see his exposure to other cultures as a plus.

Let's remember that immigrants came here to exercise religious freedom and having religion mixed up so much in politics really goes against the principle in which this country was founded.

No he doesnot salute the flag, it is a fact. He does not say the pledge of allegiance. Look it up on snopes.com. I am not against imigrants, my family is based on imigrants who came here from Italy and Ireland, Hungary, and built lives. He is Muslim, Even though he went to catholic school for 2 years which he relies on like a crutch when asked about his schooling, but he is definately Muslim Radical. He even went to schools where they trained terrorists. I am not calling him a terrorist, but he is the last thing we need in office right now. Check all of this out on the snopes.com. I am not against muslims, I am against people who are here in this country working here, making money here, who have no loyalty or patriotism to the US.

I checked this out on ' snopes.com'. It is factual. Check for yourself.

Who is Barack Obama?

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born

in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM

from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from

Wichita, Kansas.

Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two

years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His

mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia.

When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocate to Indonesia. Obama

attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta. He also spent two years in a

Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is

quick to point out that, 'He was once a Muslim, but that he also

attended Catholic school.'
Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that
that he is not a radical.

Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this

influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned

to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct

influence over his son's education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham,

introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school

in Jakarta.

Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim

terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since

it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major

public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined

the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim

background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he

DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran.

Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegience nor
will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands
over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches.

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential candidacy.

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside

out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the

President of the United States, one of their own!!!!

The increase of terrorism is due in part to our bad foreign policy and the attack on the United States happened long before Obama was in the political arena.
You realize that all this talk about Obama being Muslim is Republican propaganda, they also say that Kerry was not patriotic even if he served in Vietnam.
I understand someone not liking Obama as a presidential candidate but I would bet my life is not going to create the destruction of the United States if he were.
Bush might be a full Christian but he did not prevent him to drag the country in a war on false pretense at the cost of human lives. I really do not care about the personal belief of the president but on the stature of his character.

Well if he can not salute our flag, he does not belong living in our country let alone leading it.

I am not trying to come across as a know it all, that is just my personal opinion. My Grandparents came here from Italy, and the other set from Ireland, and Hungary. They busted their butts to make it here, taking jobs that American citizen's would never dream of taking. They were so proud to come to this country, and were probably more patriotic than a lot of Born and raised Americans were/are. I am a Democrat because the Repub. party is for the rich. Of the democratic candidates, the only one who would get my vote would be Hillary, other than that, Giulianni would be my choice for Republican. The pres. we have now, a monkey could do a better job.

I think instead of going to a website that is probably full of gossip we should look things up different.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

It lets you know the facts that his step father was indeed raised Muslim but does not really agree with religion and is an atheist. Obama was baptized 20 years ago into the Trinity United Church Of Christ. I am sure if you saw the whole picture when the line was "saluting" he was the last in line and was made to look as if he was abstaining. He is a very interesting person I am actually not into politics but my husband is obsessed with them and with the candidates and their lives he is constantly reading about them. I believe it was Edwards that was quoted saying he "Would never give up his SUV" I think the oil crisis (and thinking green) should be more important than religion. Just my thoughts :)

I read Obama first book and and I think he has an interesting background and in many way he represents the american dream: nothing was handed to him in a silver plate and he made it thanks to his personal effort and intelligence.
He has experience suffering and having lived as a biracial child without a father must not have been easy every day. He is a brilliant person and none can take that away from him.
Having said that I am not sure that he is ready to be a president and probably Hillary is a better candidate.
I just feel strongly about media manipulation and misrepresentation of candidate. That is just not fair and frankly bad politics!

Yeah well you know we "Americans" don't play fair.... It is all about digging up pasts and blowing things out of proportion. We are already a hated country from the outside, and on the inside we just turn against each other. We are a country that is past the meaning of being "United" we wouldn't know how to do that. It is a very hard decision this year. I wish Gore or Kerry were running.

Wow..never seen so much activity on any other discussion on this message board, this is great!!! Obama's religion is irrelivant to his ability to lead...and he had little control over where he went to school as a young child...I went to a school that was controlled by gangs and drugs....but I am neither a gang member nor have I ever used drugs. The republic party has no interst in leaving Iraq or letting any other country in the middle east outside of Isreal be independant. We are currently building our largest military base in Iraq....clearly stating that we have no intention of leaving, which does not speak well about us to ANY religious faction in the midlle east.

I liked Gore but somehow he was not a great communicator at the time of his presidential campaign. Once he was out of politics and involved in environmental awareness he became so much more appealing.

I really feel bad for the next president: there is a huge deficit, troops stuck in an unpopular war and the economy in recession!

Yep they are walking into a huge mess that won't be easy to clean up. It is going to take years. I just hope that the future gets a bit better for my children. I want them to have a decent life in a "normal" country..... so my husband's 5 year plan is to move to New Zealand. We'll see how that goes
posted by Kristhal on 01/26/2008 10:44 PM | edit | delete

Whoever is the next pres, the mess Bush made of this country is not one that can be cleaned up in one term. I feel like the next pres is going to spend four years paddeling upstream.

Why it took 7 years to understand who Bush was standing for?
People in other countries have really a difficult time understand how he ever got elected (TWICE)???

I have a hard time understanding of fully grasping how he got into office the first time let alone the second time. And I can stand hearing him speak, when he does his state of the union addresses. He sounds so uneducated. I only did a few years of college, but I know it is "Nuclear", and not "Nucular". I often wonder why none of the people who write his speaches or care about him haven't pulled him aside and said, you are saying that wrong and you are making yourself looke a moron, here is the correct pronunciation. I also hate when he is speaking publicly and he gets that look like what he said is the greatest most intelligent thing, he kind of smiles, and his nostrils flare. I watch his body language, he is a narcissist.

No one would have made the choices Bush made if they weren't a few french fries short of a happy meal, if ya know what I mean.

S how many times do you figure he will say "strong" in his speech today or tomorrow I am not sure when it is, I was walking by when it was being made fun of on CNN.
posted by Kristhal on 01/28/2008 10:19 AM | edit | delete

LOL, I never noticed the strong thing, I am going to have to listen for it now, LOL.
posted by on 01/28/2008 11:49 AM | edit | delete

My husband has yahoo news clips in the mornings on his computer and most are from CNN and I hear "this is strong" and "strong" there" and he said it like 5 more times it must have been at a recent speech he did so it was funny to hear. I think the people writing for him have never heard of a thesaurus and make him sound ridiculous with the redundancy. They probably don't like him and do it on purpose.
posted by Kristhal on 01/28/2008 06:03 PM | edit | delete

Yeah but his wife seems intelligent, even though she married him, you would think she or one of his college going daughters might say, hey the way you are pronouncing things is making you look like a jerk.

Well you know to us Texans" it all sounds right....hehehe. I moved here from Katy Tx. where his dad lives...been to plenty of Astros games with the secret service there. Maybe he has a speech impediment.... never know he does sound "off" when he talks I am just glad it was his last one

You guys are too funny!!! Got a few good laughs reading all the posts! Anyways, to answer the question as to how Bush got elected twice...he didn't. The first time was given to him. I am currently a student and my minor is in Political Science so I have read a lot of information on the 2000 election, and it all points to the fact that he was given the election...beyond what we all know about the voting issues in Florida and the Supreme Court refusing to allow a recount of the votes there is also the unknown fact that many votes of African Americans in Florida were not counted because they were "not sure" if they were felons with no right to vote or not. These voters are 90% democrates. This also happened in Texas. Anyways he did not win the first one, and as for how he was relected is quite simple. John Kerry was quite boring and had little personality so he did not stir up the voters. When added to the fact that many Americans were feeling quite happy with life due primarily to the housing boom, we did not pay as much attention and so it was an easy win. Sorry for such a long post! Hope everyone has a great night, I hear there is going to be a monkey speaking on TV!!

Ok here is the final tally from last nights "speech" and I use that term loosely. Usually he refers to diesel fuel and pronounces it like deeeeeesal, there were no such words used last night, however the mo said nucular 4 times, and with great pride. He used the word/words strong/strenthen 11 times, Empower was used 15 times, but the big winner of this speech was, drumroll please, trust which was used a grand total of 19 times.

DJM thanks for the counting, sometimes it is good to support theory with a little statistics!
I did not find the courage to hear him talking, somehow I am at a level of nausea and I am trying to focus on a better future.

I agree with Tina that the victory was handed to him, but even with all the irregularities we can safely assume than 40% of the voters choose him.
The most interesting part is " who handed him the victory?", that means that special interests are more powerful than democracy so when we give lesson to the rest of the world maybe we should look at our own backyard.

Why is there so much resistance to have a vote on paper?
It would make it longer to count the vote but more reliable.

It is time for people to get involved into politics or at least do not forget to exercise their right to vote.

Well it was convenient that they wouldn't recount the state that his brother was Gov. that was handed right to him. I agree that people have to take time to vote and pay attention to what is going on because this affects us and in the long run our children. I was not into politics until my husband schooled me on why I should pay attention so now it is something that I try to keep up with. Or I will just ask him if there is anything new since he is obsessed hehehe but I can understand why. You do have to admit that it is boring at times!!!!!
posted by Kristhal on 01/29/2008 11:13 AM | edit | delete

I agree completely that the only thing that will save the future of this country is if the people get involved and demand change. The good thing to come from the economic downturn and the dissatisfaction over the war is that I see more people getting involved. During the 2004 SC Democratic primary just under 300,000 votes were cast. This year Obamas support alone EXCEEDED that total, people are coming out in record numbers and that is a good thing. I say to anyone who does not have the option of a paper ballot at the polling place, file for an absentee ballot. Machines are used where I live so I fill out my ballot at home and drop it off, at least that way it can be verified and counted!
