Night Coughing
Hi, my son is 16 months and lately he has been coughing during the night. I've spoke to his pediatrician about it and he suggested a humidifier and/or elevate part of his crib or use a car seat when sleeping. Neither of these ideas seem to help and it only seems to be at night. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone through this.

my son does that at time too but not everynight...he is almost a year old...the doctor told us the same thing and it didn't help either...i am not sure but i seem to notice it more when he is teething and i believe the coughing is from the xtra saliva in his mouth...i wish i had some suggestion for you but i don't...good luck and if you find anything that works let me know...

Hi Makina...

I am going to tell you something I have read and it is going to sound crazy!
I heard there was a study done in Canada that when your child (or yourself) has a cough, to apply Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of his/your feet and then your socks. Be generous with it also. It was said to stop coughing and let the child get rest! I think it is absorbed through the soles better for whatever reason and maybe the vapors help as well. Anyway, sure is worth a try! I want to try this too...let me know if it works!
hope it helps...

Thanks for the ideas. I actually received an e-mail about the vicks on the feet. I did try it, but it didn't seem to work for him. Thanks again.

Hi Makina
My son had the same symptom but he had a cold/cough and kept coughing for 2 months. I described to the dr. that it was only at night when he was lying down. He said it sounded like he had asthma. We tried the inhaler and sure enough coughing has stopped. So maybe ask your pedriatician again and see if this is the case. It could be asthma like what my boy has.

You are welcome:-) Keep us posted of what he says...I am curious. Hope it is not ashtma but if it is, then at least you will be able to control it with the inhaler and he will be much more comfortable like my son is now.
