Hi everyone.
My daughter is 3 months old and is becoming too big for her bassinet. Does anyone have any advice for switching from her bassinet in our room, to her crib in her room??? Thanks, Jaci |

Hey Jaci,
Sleep can be such an interesting dilemma. We had some problems with getting our daughter out of the habit of sleeping in her swing. We found that a somewhat gradual process seemed to help. Rather than just dumping her in her crib and hoping for the best we were able to get her to start sleeping without the swinging motion first and then we unhooked the seat part of the swing and put it in her crib. (It was a bouncy seat designed to be detached from the swing unit.) And then eventually we were just able to lay her down in her crib. In a similar fashion, maybe you could use part or a portion of the bassinet inside the crib, so that your daughter can still have the close surroundings of the bassinet, but get used to the view from her crib. Also, since she's used the scenery of your room, could you possibly put the crib in your room for a few days?
We found "The No Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley to be tremendously helpful with our sleep issues and I think there's a section in the book answering your question exactly.
Much luck, Stephanie |

Hi Jaclyn-
We used to put our daughter in a bassinet for naps, bedtime or whenever she fell asleep, but when she became too big for her bassinet, we would wait until she was asleep in our arms and then put her down in her crib for naps during the day. She just got so used to it, we were able to switch her in no time without any hassles. If your daughter is having trouble sleeping in her crib, you can try soft music in the background or a mobile. Hope this helps!!

Hi Jaclyn, I guess we were pretty lucky. We didn't have any problems going from bassinet to crib. Kaylee would always go to sleep good, it is the staying asleep part we need to work on :-) The first thing we did, around 3 months, was try laying her in the crib for naps first. Kaylee always did great on the first nap of the day, so we started with that one. We had a mobile at the time and she watched it go around, would get sleepy and then sleep. She never protested, so we started all naps in the crib. Then just one night she was ready. Maybe it was the gradual transition :-) |

We're going through this right now. We tried to wrap her up snuggly first, and we got a white noise machine that seems to help a lot. |

You may want to tart naps in her crib. I put my daughters crib in our room for about 4 monhts then we moved it in her room . |

Thanks everyone for your advice. We'll give it a try! My sympathies to anyone else who has difficulty with this transition.;) |

I swear by my babies' white noise machine. I turn it on waves every night and he sleeps like a rock (10-12 hours most of the time). Also, sudden noises don't disturb him because the white noise blocks it out. I strongly suggest getting one. Also, it blocks out those little movements on the baby monitor that have us jolted out of bed just to discover the little one is only rolling over. |

Hi, we are going through the switching process with my 6 month old son. He is getting too long for his porta crib and I am not ready to let him go inyo his room in his crib yet. His crib is a convertible crib (the really wide one) and it doesn't fit through our bedroom door without being taken apart. We were thinking about using his pack n' play until he's one year old, maybe get a thicker mattress for it. I am paranoid about SIDS and don't feel comfortable having him sleep in a different room. Has anyone thought of OR tried this?? Or any suggestions?? Thanks. |

Over Christmas we took Lucy's pack n' play to the grandparents house, and she slept in it well. We didn't even need to put anything else on it for a mattress, and they even make sheets for the pack n' plays. |
