PREGNANT AFTER 35
HI EVERYBODY...I'M JUDY & I'M FROM N.J.
I HAD MY SON 2 & 1/2 YRS AGO, WHEN I WAS 39. HE'S MY FIRST & PROBABLY ONLY. I WAS A LITTLE WORRIED TO HAVE A BABY AT THAT AGE, WITH ALL THAT COULD GO WRONG. BUT I KEPT BELIEVING EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE. I LISTENED TO EVERYTHING MY DR. SAID TO INSURE THE HEALTH OF MY BABY & MYSELF. BUT I ONLY DID CERTAIN TESTS. THE DR. WANTED ME TO HAVE AN AMNIO, BUT I DIDN'T. I WAS TOO AFRAID TO HAVE THAT TEST. BUT I MUST SAY, THOSE WERE THE BEST 9 MONTHS. EVERYTHING WENT FINE, & NOW I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY, VERY ACTIVE SON. AND ANOTHER GOOD THING ABOUT HAVING A BABY LATER IN LIFE...I HAD ULTRA SOUNDS ALMOST EVERY MONTH, SO I GOT TO SEE THE LITTLE GUY ALOT. :)
SO TO ALL YOU WOMEN OUT THERE CONTEMPLATING HAVING BABIES AFTER 35, I SAY..DO IT. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL.

Hi Judy...

They wanted me to have an amnio as well...particularly when the first bloodwork came back high risk for downs. It was a tough decision for me. Not because I would have ended the pregnancy....that wasn't even a thought. But I am the type who "needs to know" and plan everything. Knowing for sure if my girl would have downs would help me prepare....but at what risk? The thought that my need to know could put my baby at risk, I decided not to have the amnio. That was a milestone for me.

Our baby girl is not Downs, but had she been we would have loved her just the same. But it is a little unnerving when it is being "highly recommended" that you have the tests. My doctor even sent me to genetic counseling to advise me of the risks. I knew the risks...and all that mattered was my baby girl. I'm glad I made the decision I did. It was the right one for me.
