My son is 17 months old and we're planning on waiting until he's at least 2, probably 2 1/2. I think starting early might not be a bad idea, just go really slow, and take his lead. :) |

We have been putting him on the potty when he poops for a while now. It was very obvious when he was going and I did not see the harm in trying. He does really well, he lets us know and everyday we put him on the potty after he wakes up from his nap and he goes poopy :) He has not picked up on the pee pee thing yet but I think he is getting close. Almost everytime we put him on the potty he pees real fast and says all done. He just has not figured out how to let us know before he goes, we have to play the guessing game. I know this is the tricky part and just wanted to see if anybody had any helpful tricks. |

great job, Heather! I too have started early...my son is only 12 months and for the last 3 weeks I have been putting him on the potty just to see how he would do and to my surprise, he pooped and peed on it! I think the most important part of training is to be consistent (well as consistent as you can be) I usually try to put him on certain times of the day---like after naps, after eating, etc. Also, when he goes on the potty, I let him get up and have him look in it and then I say "You went pee pee / poo poo YAY!!" So far, so good......and if it saves on just a few diapers, then why not?!? :) If people in China can have their children potty-trained before 2 years old then why can't we?? |

I totally agree! It is really funny but Branson likes to wave bye bye to his poopy as it goes down :) Everytime he goes he waits while I help him pull up his pants and then he goes to potty and says flush. When I flush it he starts waving and saying bye bye poopy (or at least his version), it is so cute! |
