My 8 month old daughter doesn't seem to want to even try to crawl or stand even with the toy trains and the moving balls. I feel she just would rather have me help her than try it herself. When should I back off? |

at 9 months is when my daughter started to crawl and hole onto furniture and by 10 months she was walking. Just give your daughter some tummy time a few times a day. What me and my husband did to encourage her was we both sit on the floor with a legs together with baby in the middle and that is how she learned to come to mommy and daddy and we clapped and made a big deal. Your daughter will be there soon, enjoy this time now, for when she walks she will be into everything. Good luck! |

We put our daughter on her tummy, and placed something just out of her reach which she really liked....cell phone! Eventually she started to shift her weight to get to it. Within 3 weeks she was crawling. Best of luck! |

We did the placing something just out of her reach and it worked to get her doing the "army" crawl where she would just kinda drag her self around by an arm and push with a leg, But once she saw my friends twins crawling hands and knees style she just mimic what they were doing . see if you can find some other mommies and babies to hang out with. |

Thanks everyone. I've tried the just out of her reach and she likes to roll on her back then roll back to a different angle to reach the toy. She can go backwards and gets so frustrated when the toy gets farther away. When she's on he tummy she puts her head on her arms and shakes her head like she's given up ( really cute but kinda sad ). |

My oldest did not crawl until she was 12 months old, so I would not stress to much about it. Doing what I call baby crunches- join her hand with the opposite foot and then repeat on the other side- is supposed to "connect" the crawling type motion in those precious growing brains. My second crawled at 8 months and is now 13 months and shows little desire to walk. The pedi is not concerned. I figure the stuff comes when they are ready and I should enjoy the "break" from further mobility while I can! |

Jillian, Don't worry, it sounds like she is just about there. Katie did the same thing right before she started to crawl. She would roll until she got to what she wanted. I would put her up on her hands and knees and move her hands and legs a few times so she got the concept of it. She'll figure it out pretty soon, then your in for it!! lol Soon she'll be into anything and everything |
