Mom's Expo
Hi. My name is Krissi Newtown. I came across your moms group site while surfing the web for moms groups. I am writing to ask your opinion.

I am interested in hosting a Celebrate Mama event whic would showcase products and services that cater to women, particularly mothers. I envision this expo to include childcare organizations, family events, moms groups, health and wellness for women, etc.

Do you feel that this type of event would gain interest from mothers in the area? Also do you have any suggestions for a venue or possible vendors to invite?

Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you,

Sincerely,
Krissi Newtown

It sounds like a great event. It would be especially useful for those of us who just moved to the area to get an idea of what the mohawk valley has to offer...mommie and me yoga classes etc.? I also heard that someone in the area has been certified for Happiest Baby on the block training...perhaps she would be a good one to contact?

Jessica, what is Happiest Baby on the block? I am ALWAYS looking for fun things to do with my daughter, and find nothing in the Utica/Rome region ever...except Mommy & Me at MVCC and from what I understand, that's not that great. Every thing I find seems to be geared more towards toddlers, so I would love to find something to do with My 7 month old daughter.

I don't know very much about the Happiest Baby classes, but here is the website: www.haveahappybaby.com. My limited understanding is that it is a technique that was developed by a doctor to help with colicky babies...there is a book that goes along with it too, if I am remembering correctly.

Also, the instructor is the same woman who does the Prenatal and Mommy and Me yoga classes at Universal Yoga Center that I was looking into; I guess they aren't currently offering the Mommy and Me yoga class, but maybe if enough of us expressed an interest in attending, they would get it back on the schedule? I wonder what was bad about the one at MVCC, any ideas?

I have been looking for classes in the area to attend with my daughter...I looked into Kindermusik a little bit which we might sign up for. The first class offered there is called the Village and it is for newborns to 18mo. If you go to kindermusik.com you can find the closest educator near you. They also offer one free class...you can go in and get a feel for if it is right for you and your little one. I am hoping to do it soon!?

Thank you for all the information. I will check it out. My Cousin in law went to the MV class, and said it was just three of them there and they sang some songs and did baby massage....she just felt like it was the same stuff she could do at home. Of course her baby was so young when she went, maybe it would be different for a 6 or 12 month old. Check it out....and if you go, let us know what you think.

I just joined here and saw this thread. We used the book Happiest Baby on the Block when our son was little and colicky - tremendous help! We also have Happiest Toddler book.

We did the Village Kindermusik class (they have one in Marcy, New Hartford and Chadwicks and I think Oneida) - we really liked it! We stopped going because I am returning to work in Jan and Thomas will be in daycare on the day the class was held. I'd love to go to the one for 18 months up in the spring if I can find one that doesn't conflict with my work or his daycare schedule!
