Talking yet?
HI all, my son is 14 months and just doesnt say a whole lot, he is very physically active and does stuff that is at the 18 months level in some areas. When he was born he had mild to moderate torticollis which led to his plagiocephaly and he had to be in a helmet for 10 weeks to try and lessen his flatspot. Anyway, I was wondering if any other moms are having this issue about the speech. he does recognise tons of words and understands simple commands like get his cup or a specific toy (ball, car etc). Thanks for the comments and advice.

Our son doesn't say many recognizable words. He can say Mama, Dada, and Nana if he wants. But lately everything is Dog. Just like your son, he understands simple things like Where's your ball? Where's Chuck? - his bear - and other stuff. He loves squealing, growling, and making noises with his throat that I can't even imagine how he does it! He was a late babbler and I think he's making up for it now as he constantly chatters his own little language. Every now and then it sounds like he's saying 3 word sentences but they don't pertain to what's actually going on around him at the time - just his imagination I guess (Or ours for wanting him to say things). He also tries to talk from the back of his throat. We're trying silly games and things to help open his throat and mouth wider when he tries to talk because it seems to get stuck at the back of his tongue. Our pediatrician wasn't worried about it yet, just said to keep talking to him throughout the day describing every day activities and to continue reading to him a lot. He said the words will come when they come. I hope this helps!

Thanks jenni for your comment, it helped knowing that Luke isn't the only one. This week I noticed he has added one word to his short list, "nana" meaning banana which he loves to eat. So I am trying not to worry until he is in that 18 to 24 month zone when all the language explosion takes place and see what happens. He does seem to recognise more words now and also knows several of his body/face parts on me and himself which is wonderful.
