backpack carriers
We are interested in buying a "backpack carrier" for Mackenzie this spring. (She will be one in March). We had a one that you wore in the front (now she's too big) and she loved it and it made hiking so much easier! Any suggestions for one that goes on your back would be great. Thanks!

I have heard the Ergo is the best way to go for carriers for hiking and all that. I use a mei tai but I don't know how that would do in hiking or long distance situations. I would look into an Ergo. Like I said, I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I have Gerry TrailTech backpack and it's great. It's a real backpack and it has the frame with legs so when You take it off it works like a chair, don't have to take baby out of it right away. Good for feeding as well. Ergo as I heard is great but backpack with frame provides You more support for Your back (if You ever hiked with big backpack on the frame You know the difference).

I have an ego, and I LOVE IT!!!! I also have a frame backpack but my daughter is to small for it. So it really depends on what you plan to use it for. Are you doing some serious hiking that will be hours long?? Then maybe something with more support. But I did a easy/moderate trail that took 3 hours and the ergo was perfect.

yes that is what i am looking for, probably no longer than 3 hours. Does it have a sunshade? What is the weight limit?

I am not sure the weight limit. You can research that on their website. I think it is something like 30-40 lbs, but I don't know off hand. It does have a cover of sorts. I had a hat on Kaylee when using it, then used the cover when she went to sleep. It is a solid piece of fabric that flips over their head. It doesn't have any support, so rests on their head.

Oh, let me also mention that it is kinda hot. So depends on where you live and what time of year you will use it. That is the only drawback that I can think of. It is made of solid fabric, and you are toughing body to body so it does get warm.

We have Deuter Kid Comfort II and love it. It only weighs 6lbs, is adjustable for the parents and the child, which is a nice feature for us because my husband is 6' 2" and I'm only 5' 3" so it will adjust for his height and my height. It also is really easy to adjust when Kinsey is wearing a lot of layers or when she goes through a growth spurt. It will hold up to 48.5lbs and came with a sun shade and also a rain cover to cover her when it is raining or windy. It might seem a little expensive, but it is well made and well worth the money. We have used it a lot and it's nice for short or long hikes. Hope this helps.

Hey Amanda,

I started a hiking group in Central Mass for Moms. Too bad you don't live up this way!:)

Anyway, check out Sherpani Rumba's...the only thing I don't like is that it doesn't stand up very well, but the stand is already extended on it. It fits extremely well for both myself and my husband. We are 5'8" & 5'10".

Hope this helps!
