My little guy is going to be 1 yr old soon. He still takes a full bottles at bedtime. I want to cut back on it and add a snack for bed. Can anyone recommend some good snacks for bed time. He is a big healthy boy with a very good appetite. |

Some guidelines to keep in mind when picking a bedtime snack: 1) snacks should be high in complex carbohydrates 2) they should be small 3) they should be nutritious
(Complex carbohydrates have a calming effect due to their ability to stimulate the production of serotonin in the brain. High protein, on the other hand stimulates brain adrenalin which would maybe fuel a second wind, so skip the leftover tuna salad etc.)
some ideas are: a warm cup of milk with any of the following: whole grain crackers, toast with butter or peanut butter, banana, cubes of baked potato or sweet potato, dry cereal, mini muffin, cold pasta, rice cakes, pear chunks, apple slices, apple sauce, leftover rice or other grain from dinner, small piece of a bagel, leftover pancakes spread with a little fruit sweetened jam, cream of vegetable soup
