Warm market networking
Hi Everyone,

I have a customer referral business for products that are safer for kids and the environment. Great company to endorse, but I'm stuck at where to start in my warm market. Any ideas would help.

Thanks,
Starr

Hi Starr!

I am a Realtor in the Metro Detroit area. warm market marketing is all about staying in touch with your SOI (Sphere of Influence). Start by writing down a list of everyone you know. If you start out in the beginning with a database like in excel it helps. Begin brainstorming by listing family, friends, and branching out further: dentist, doctor, lawyer, friendly people you see frequently in the grocery store like cashiers, Begin gathering all the information you can about them. Addresses, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Keep that info in your database. Sending a birthday card, and such is how you can work your warm market. Call each of them about once a month. (I have a real hard time with that). You don't always have to bring up the product you sell. At first, it is a great thing to bring up. It gives you something to announce. After a while, when you call to talk, they will start asking you. An opening in to the conversation could be as simple as "have you sold anything this week?" For me, with the tough market we have, I hear things like "tough market, eh?" or sold anything lately followed by a laugh.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for advice! My husband will love it, too. He's an excel geek :)

Okay. So if I am understanding you correctly, what you are saying is that you should put your intial contact list/chicken list or whatever people want to call it into excel and then basicly make it into an address book/date tracker? For family members I would think I shouldn't have much problem with that but how do I get info and stuff like that from people like the cashiers and such? I am looking to switch from a direct sales company that I have been working with to a network marketing company that I have been a customer with but am kind of lost on where to start and how to make it work. I was just going to try to do this online and over the phone but I don't know how to do that without seeming spammy to a lot of people and I don't like that idea. Thanks for any help you can give.

When you come into contact with people, listen. You may be surprised how much people will talk. For example, when you are at the dentist, you may be able to find a way to bring up the fact that you are looking forward to an upcoming event... after you get a conversation started, the person you are talking to may open up with something like "my birthday is next week!" or "I just celebrated my 25th anniversary". Take it and run with it. Carry a notebook in your car so you can write down the information as soon as possible.
