When I weaned my son from the bottle I went with some easy to grip spill proof Sippy cups. For the first month I would have him drink his juice and water from the cups about 2 or three times a day. The second month I would have him drink from his cups during the day and only gave him a bottle at night. the next month I threw all of the bottles away. My sister in law allowed her daughter to keep her pacifier until she decided she didn't want it any more. As a result she ended up with rubbery looking teeth. The dentist has told her that her permanent teeth should come in normal though. I think not weaning a child from the bottle might have the same effect. I would ask his doctor just to be sure. |

My son is 13 months and he still drinks from a bottle. Try various versions of sippy cups, try a straw cup, try giving him a regular cup and see if that interests him more. With our son I try to limit the bottle to only nap/sleep times now and he is still getting liquids through sips of either his cup or his sister's cup that he steals. Eventually you son will like the cup but you need to always offer it and hopefully soon he'll be drinking from one like a pro. Best of luck. |

I started my son with a Nubby sippy cup. It's similar to a bottle. He seemed to like it, but he was still drinking from the bottle in the morning and at night and at nap time. Then I tried a whole bunch of different cups. ( Of couse now my mother looks in my cupboard and says "My, YOU never had that many cups when you were an infant! LOL) Eventually, he drank from all of them! He liked the comfort from the bottle in the morning and at night. Then one day, I took it away from him in the morning, and he was okay. I had to keep trying to take it away at night a few times before it finally took. He was about 18 or 19 months. My doctor recommended that I wean him at 1 year, but hey, his teeth look fine. I don't see any lasting effects and he never took a paci. Just keep offering and eventually something will stick! |
