I need some advice. MY 9 month old son only has his 2 bottom teeth. For the past two months he has refused to eat any baby food; fruit, vegetables, and baby cereal. He like table food, but will only eat a few bites of that. He is formula fed, and takes about five, 8ox bottles a day. Is this normal for babies to refuse all food. I am worried about his vitamin, and mineral intake. If he is not getting enough from his food, how else can he get them? I am also worried that this will also slow his development. |

hi my 8 mo old just got his 2 bottoms and refused for awhile but it picked up again. but if he never eats i think its becasue he is getting way too much formula. babies only need between 24-26 oz a day. i would talk to your ped. but im sure shell tell you to cut down on form. also my little guy likes constant change in food. once he slows on whatever pureed thing im giving him ill give him a couple of gerber puffs or a rice cake, something he can hold and play w awhile then when hes distracted i sneak in more food. good luck |

I tried this and it worked when our son was also dealing with a lax appetite during the early teething days - give him his veggie, cereal, or fruit first and then finish up with a 6 oz milk OR start with just 2-4 oz of milk/formula to wet his appetite then give the food. If he's refusing the food with gusto and only wants the formula, then maybe don't even let him see the formula until he's had some other foods. Whatever you do, stay consistent and keep trying! He won't starve and this finicky phase may pass soon enough. Also, appetites can waver when babies when a fever/cold is coming along, so be on the lookout for that as well (which can accompany teething...no matter what the experts say...they do seem to go hand in hand!) Good luck and keep meal time happy!

If your son is drinking five, 8oz bottles he is getting all the nutrients he needs. Babies get most of their nutrients the first year from BM/formula. Try cutting down the amount of formula or give some water with his baby food. |
