my brother in law wants to buy a digital camera for his wife and asked me about it. I personally love SLR, but I know she is not going to use the camera in manual mode so she needs a good camera with good quality image. What do you recommend? thank you for your help.

Hi Paola, welcome to the group!
Is she interested in the art of photography, or does she simply want to take snaps of the family etc.? Is your brother-in-law looking within a certain price range?
Cameras today come in an almost overwhelming variety of feature sets and price ranges, so it will help to know what her objectives are before buying. |

It sounds like a point-and-shoot is the way to go. I must admit my product knowledge is a bit lacking. I'm an SLR user, and don't know a lot about what's out there in the world of point-and-shoots.
My partner and sister both have Canon point-and-shoots, and they seem quite pleased with them. From what I've seen the images are very acceptable, and I know they're very easy to use. I'm also certain that they didn't spend more than a couple hundred dollars, so you could probably get an excellent product in your price range.
I hope you can find a good camera salesman in your area. They'll be able to narrow down your options much better than I. Good luck, and keep us informed. I'd be curious to know which model you end up choosing.
