Hi everyone. I live in the Northeast, and it is now oficially winter. BLAH. I am getting frustrated because I was on a roll! I was going to the gym 3 days a week and going for nice walks with my little girl almost every day. I lost about 10 pounds... Now it's FREEZING outside, so no walks. That also makes it hard to drive to the gym. I go before my hubby leaves for work - I leave the house at 4:45 am (I know I am crazy, but that's the only time I can go). We had a big snowstorm this Monday, so I couldn't get to the gym... UGH. Anyway, I have already put 3 pounds back on. I have been careful about what I eat but it seems that I have NO metabolism. Going to the gym exclusively isn't "cutting the mustard".
I have decided that I need to motivate to do Tae Bo or some other tapes in the house. I have never been good about doing them... the couch is RIGHT there :)
Any words of encouragement? It seems like it's gonna be a long winter.
Thanks for listening. --Annemarie |

Hi Annemarie ~
I think winter is hard for exercise for many reasons. I would certainy encourage you to get some DVDs, at least two that you can rotate, to use this winter. Look into exercise bands and balls for toning and muscle building, too. If you have it all at home, then if it's too dangerous to drive to the gym in the early morning, you can go ahead and pop in a DVD. Also, Leslie Sansone has some good walk at home DVDs to replace walking outside.
You want to know how lazy I am? To encourage myself to stay off the couch and move around more, I have, in the past, left my clean laundry folded on the couch. I don't mind washing/drying laundry, I don't mind folding laundry, but I hate putting it away - but if it's on the couch, I can't be! |

Kelly,
Thanks for the support. You are too funny :) In my case, I should put all of our dirty DISHES on the couch - that is my least favorite chore :) I am going out tomorrow to get at least one dvd that I am excited about. I'll have to look into the walk at home concept - it's tough to imagine.
Happy - UGH - exercising :) |

Annemarie it sounds like we all have the same symptoms in the northern regions. I wonder about excerciseing myself and I feel like such a slump now that I can't go walking with my daughter. I almost feel like we are hermit crabs never leaving our encasing shell. Spring is just too far away. I am trying my hardest to eat less and eat slower as your body digests food slowly and therefore by eating slowly you are allowing your body to tell you when it is actually full. (before we eat the entire plate of whatever) Let e know how your dvd's work and if they are feasible. Tae Bo is just to fast paced for me and the sad part is that I use to be a Marine. Who would have guessed that I am dyslexic when it comes to trying to mirror somebody. Anyway let us know. |

Hi Ladies,
Don't worry Annemarie, 3 lbs could just be water. Don't give up!!!!!!! just think of how great you will look come Feb. when all of your friends are complaining :) I'm struggling as well, the gym for me is only two blocks away and yet I can still find a way to get out of it. I takes my husband wanting to go swimming to get me there and he has much less time available than I do, (he's on Atkins and doing fantastic!!!). AND>>>I've been baking each day.......:( Yesterday I made four loaves of apple bread and was smart enough to throw it in the freezer, the problem was then my daughter made cookies and they went right to my waist. Somethings I learned recently (from a crazy friend that jogs for miles at night in the winter), we burn more calories faster outside in the cold. Playing with the dog, kids or shoveling ect for 30 mins is awesome. Also if your house is drafty like mine then when you come in you are surprised at how warm and inviting your home really is. The problem they've discovered is that most women don't take time out to purchase warm winter clothes for themselves., like good boots, snowpants, gloves. Most go all winter with a hat, light coat and little dollar mittens. Another tip they told me is that when you are "down" don't think of the exercise, think of the problem area. For me its my waist and behind so today I'm going to do exercises while I clean to focus on that, like bending at the waist extra times to pick something up.
I'm hoping to get big butt outdoors for a few minutes today.....I'll let you know if I actually did it later.

Tina it sounds like you have some good tips. I didn't know that we burned more in the winter. You are so right that we usually buy our children better winter items then ourseleves it is a shame. I to am going to try and get outside today. I will dress my daughter in her snow suit and her gloves and all that jazz, and take some time to partake in the winter festivities. Thanks for your post. |

I love the dvd from Densie Austin, it's Complete Core. You use a ball and some free weights. But the best thing about it is, the dvd is segmented into different sections, so if you only have 15 minutes to work out, you can get a complete core plus arms one day, then hit the next segment for core and butt. It's great! It also helps so you don't get bored. Hope you like it as much as I do |

You guys have such great ideas and you are such a support. It's nice to know that I'm not alone... let's suffer together :)
I have decided to add two things to what I have been doing. 1) anytime that family comes to visit us, I am going to leave them with my daughter (she's 1) and I will get out for a walk. I don't have the heart to make her sit in the stroller in this cold. 2) The one tv show that I am addicted to is General Hospital. I am going to put a step in front of the tv and make myself step through as much of the show as I can stand. I will continue going to the gym 3-4 times a week and I will do tae bo or some other video 1 - 3 times a week.
Wish me luck! |

Well, I didn't make it outside yesterday but I did go to the gym and swim for 20 mins and then did some walking around the stores while we searched for my son's snow pants.
oh and good luck walking in front of your tv show! |

Watch out ladies we have two very dedicated women on our hands here. I wish you two could send us all some of your determination I know I could use it greatly. I applaud you Annemarie for putting the step in front of your tv show. It is always easier for you when you can enjoy something while you are doing something not so enjoyably. I feel you on not wanting to bring the baby in the cold. How I wish I still lived in Florida and the weather couldn't be a reason why I couldn't excercise. Great work ladies keep it up. |

:) Don't be too impressed. I have a tendency to talk the big talk and then be lacking in follow through. I'll try to reply to this again in 3 weeks or so and we'll see if I'm really doing what I say... It's easy to type something, if only someone else could do the WORK for me... :) |

I know exactly what you mean. But once you get into it it is easy to keep it up. The only down side is when you start to take a break and it ends up being a 4 month break like mine. Some times I could just laugh at what I have allowed myself to not do. I could only imagine what 112 pounds looks like. That was what I weighed right after bootcamp. Ofcourse I was also being forced to workout and I had a strict 3 meal a day diet with only what our bodies needed nutrion wise. I think I need that again, but with not having to leave my family. Just stay positive and as Kelly said in another post "one steo at a time" talk to you ladies later. |
