I just agreed to help organize a Moms' Group and am having trouble thinking of good places to meet up since we all hardly know each other and aren't quite ready to invite a bunch of strangers into our houses. It is cold here and outdoor activities aren't very likely til spring. I would like to avoid the mall and mcdonald's playland to avoid flu and bugs in general. Any other good ideas on what sorts of places to meet? Our kids range from 4 months to 4 years. We have tried the library for storytime, but that hasn't worked out well. Thanks in advance for your suggestions! |

Hi! It depends a lot on where do You live. Here in NYC it's pretty much easy. We usually meet at indoor playspaces which aren't terribly expensive and some doesn't require membership but are available at drop-in basis, in kids-friendly restaurants for lunches, in mueums, especially the ones designed for childrens and those which has grand spaces where You can sit down withouth being a nuisance for others. If the group is smaller we can also spend some time at Barnes&Nobles' kids section or at Toys'R'Us. There is a lot of options but I'm afraid all of them mean some possibility of contact with flu etc as there are always people around. I have no clue where You could meet withouth it unless You rent for Your group indoor plaspace like at Gymboree or other birthday party place. |

Try looking up websites for your local tourism for ideas of places to go. Or chamber of Commerce, has lots of brochures for you to peruse. Sometimes small museums or churches will allow you to use their basements or extra rooms for a very small donation. Good luck! |

I started a winter playgroup with my friends because I was terrified of being stuck indoors alone all winter! We alternate lunches at eachother's houses. I made up a schedule, along with themes, and we all meet once a week and have a potluck. It's fun to see what other people make and it's easy to get the kids together because they get to play with "new" toys and generally stay pretty busy. Also, check with your local library. They generally have large, multi-purpose rooms that can be cleared out for a playgroup and everyone can bring a few toys. We do that twice a week. Hope this helps! Good luck! |

Also Places that sell crafts let you use there space like booking a party, & that includes an instructor that sets up, cleans up & shows a craft of your choice.
I work for Jo-Ann Fabrics so if you want to book one in Jax , Fl call me a 904-887-9149.
By the way I love the Themed lunch idea! |

For Winter in Texas there was alot to do but it is a warmer climate. There were MJ Designs (Hobby Lobby)where the craft co-ordinator would get ahold of the craft lady at the store and they would organize a craft 1 time a month for a certain age group. The moms would take turns having the children in their home however many times the children would go around the calender.8 x a month 2 playdays a week. That way it wasnt up to just 1 mom to make a calender to do things.Library days/Chuck e Cheese Day/Put Put Golf Day/Bowling w Liners Day/In Texas there was a special Buiding I forget its name but it had little games and rides for children under certain ages/Mc Donalds was popular w its playground indoors and out/craft days at your house/Museum Day/Special holiday looks from certain ppl-Malls?with their crafts and decorations-train rides?movie days/live plays day christmas?thxgvg?Hope I helped you out. |

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but flu is going to be anywhere you go.If you have meetings at your houses some 1 is going to be at risk. The reason(dads of the children may have gotten around some 1 sick and its there.Older siblings go to school with hundreds of children and some children go to daycares part-time and we all know those are crawling everyday with germs. We just have to give our children vitamins and hope that their immunities with-stand whatever they come in contact with. And as far as Mc Donald's,they are very good at cleaning a section all up if you call ahead of time and tell them what age groups you have coming to their restarant. For 2 reasons:no 1 they do not want to have 20 children running around w runny noses getting their other regular customers sick(lunch run customers)They will most likely comply with cleaning the area w disinfectant; all you have to do is ask.And believe me !!! They will definately clean the areas your children were in when you leave.lol.Meeting ppl at your homes is best; because it shows trust and warmth.Closer friendships come out of home meetings.Go by last names.Pick some 1 to help w refreshments. |
