Headaches
Does anyone else experience sever headaches or migraines? What do you do or take to help you feel better. My daughter is only 4 and a half months old so it is difficult to lay down for as long as I need to. I can a little when my husband is home but I breastfeed (obviously) so it can't be that long. Plus, I have things I have to take of, so I feel like I am shirking my responsibilities if I try to escape to a dark, quiet room. Only when my daughter sleeps can I do what I need to to get rid of the headache...any suggestions?

Have you had these long? I take 800 mg motrin, drink a serving of caffeine and bear with it til my husband gets home. Mine start from neck pain/trigger points, so massage may help. I had to see a spine/joint dr b/c I really messed up my neck nursing my 1st. My breast size makes it all worse b/c I have bad posture due to Size E boobs. So my answer is motrin, caffeine, heating pad and massage to neck, one pillow at night for neck pain and being careful not to sleep with arm extended at shoulder when nursing at night. I almost always get a HA when I do this. Hope that helps some. You are not shirking anything!

I have had migraines since I was a child. My Mom and I both have chronic migraines. I was free of them when I was pregnant but now they are back. I feel like I should not take anything strong enough to help because I am nursing. I used to take Excedrine Migraine and that helped. Even the Motrin 800 did not really help that much. I nurse sitting up at night so that is not the issue...and poor posture from large breasts is not either...they are bigger than before but not that big! Thanks for the suggestions though!

Kendra, I have only had a handful of migraines and haven't had one since the end of my pregnancy so I can only imagine how difficult it is to care for a baby with one. I too do not like to take meds while I am breastfeeding, but if you find something safe for the baby, take it. You don't want to get burnt out and frustrated. Get as much rest as you can between feedings dont feel guilty because your not getting things done. I come across alot of parents at the hospital that try and stay up with their kid all night and before long they get burnt out and cant take care of them as well.

I hate to say not to trust your doctor but I would suggest checking any meds you try out before you take them. Some doctors don't keep up to date on things.

Here is some info I found for you...

ALSO: See if you can find out anything from the American Academy of Pediatrics at...

Hope this was helpful.
