breastfeeding/sleep question
Hi Ladies,
I need some help my 9month old boy still breastfeeds and sleeps with us from 12 on and he is waking up more often to eat. The thing is that he has teeth and my breast are a little sore.
I do not know if it's just a phase or it will be worse as time goes by. He won't take a bottle only for water, but not formula. I do not mind to breastfeed. the problem is that when i want to move to go to sleep he gets up again and will want to start again. i am a little tired any suggestions ? we have not move him to his room because it's too far away from ours.
thank you
paola

Have you tried giving him a pacifier for sleeping? Sometimes babies just like to suck, especially when sleeping.

You said he has teeth? Maybe he is getting more! I heard that some babies find nursing soothing when they are getting teeth, and will wake more often during the night for this.

I think that Bethany is right- he is probably nursing for comfort and the sucking. My son is 10 months old and did this as well. I also move him into bed with me when he wakes up and since I've done that, he wakes up more and wants to nurse all night. It was my own fault, and a hard habit to break, especially when they want the comfort. I got out of the routine by nursing him in a chair when he woke up and putting him back in his crib. If you want to keep him with you, you could try getting up out of bed to nurse him and then going back to bed with him when he is done, maybe that will work for you. Mine sleeps much better by himself, and so do I! Right now he has a tooth ready to break through so he's been really fussy and I have let him sleep with me. But, he wants to nurse all the time again. You have to get him to stop sucking on you all night, the pain will only get worse and then you won't want to nurse at all. Try putting lanolin on your nipples once or twice a day for a couple days to keep them from getting so raw. Hope this helps...

thank you Bethany and Lauren. i think you guys are right. he won't take a pacifier . I have tried. but the waking up and feeding him on the chair may help. yesterday he slept for 4 hours straight and then came to my bed and got up but not as often. I am going to try to have him more use to his crib.
ok thank you guys. I feel much better to know that I am not the only one and ger advise from you guys. Thank you once again.
