I became a firs-time mom at 36. When I was still pregnant, I searched extensively for affordable daycare and found it to be incredibly expensive, even from people who do it from their homes. It would have eaten up more than half my paycheck! I've been a transcriptionist for many years, and after my daughter was born, I went to work from home for a nationwide transcription company, and that solved the daycare problem. But, of course, it presents all new challenges...working from home with a 2-year-old in tow, and squeezing in work when she's napping (when she naps..lol) and when she's asleep for the night. I love being at home, but being at home all the time is enough to drive you crazy sometimes too. I am in a bowling league, so that gets me out of the house once a week for a few hours. I have also been looking for other parents to meet and chat with, and get my daughter around other kids more often now that she is a toddler.
I'm trying to begin a group of my own as well, Parents over 30, for moms and dads who still have little ones, or just became first-time parents when over the age of 30. The group hasn't formed yet, since I just joined this website yesterday and still looking for interested members. But I'm very glad I found it. Nice to "meet" you all, and God bless! |

Hi Christine! Thanks for your post.
Working from home definitely solves one problem and creates others. I'm beginning to think its easier for parents of school-age children... (almost able to join that club!)
Kudos to you for finding a great outlet to help re-establish a sense of sanity...can I just say, "STRIKE"!
I wonder if anyone has found that magical formula for acheiving a balance between parenting, child care and "me time"? |
