Introducing Myself
Hi ... I'm Lindsey. I am the proud mom of 2 beautiful girls. Lavinia Grace ("Gracie") is almost 4 and will start preschool in the fall and Calista Mary is almost 6 months.

I've been trying to get the girls involved with play groups lately b/c I'm nervous about my little shy gal starting preschool. She does great socializing with family and is quite the character in her comfort zone but take her outside her "bubble" and she shuts down. Any other ideas you might have on how to help her in this transition would be greatly appreciated.

Try to set playdate with her future classmate, if you happen to know who they might be. I think it helps when they see one familiar face!

If you can't do that, jsut tell her that everybody is going to be scared just like her. Normalize her disconfort...

I hope it helps,

Vero

Lindsey,
I deal alot with this teaching preschool and working Sunday school at our church. If you can find a group to send her to regularly and let her know it is OK just to ease into it, eventually she will acclimate and even enjoy it. That first time out, around strangers in a strange place, is difficult for all children. Just keep it regular and give her time to adjust. I had one girl in preschool who did not open her mouth one time for the first four months I had her. She would go home and tell her mom everything we did, but never spoke. This year I can't keep her quiet! I hope this helps. Have a great day!
