Hey, Gals
I have an eleven yr old son who is in his first year of middle school. Literally, he has gone from being respectful and loving to withdrawn and almost spiteful. Everyone keeps reassuring me that it's just his transition into middle school and that it will eventually improve but, I can't stand how badly our relationship seems to have deteriorated to. He really is not a bad kid and gets straight A's but, I'm seriously worried about him. Can anyone offer any advice? |

I have a daughter who's 13 and she's gone off her rocker!! I don't know where my sweet child went. One day she's such a giving girl and the next she's so hateful. I hope that it doesn't last very long because I'm about to strangle her!! Maybe by the time she's in her 20's I'll be smart again. I have a 1 yr son so I get to go through it again. Lucky me. What I've been doing is telling her that I still love her and no matter what she does that is not going to change. |

Unfortunately, kids this age can be very cruel. Did you try asking him about his days and his friends? I know that I was picked on in seventh grade by the school bully and lost ALL my friends. This was very hard and I didn't want to go to school anymore. My brother taught me how to stick up for myself and how to defend myself if I needed to (he was a brown belt in karate at the time). As soon as I stood up for myself, the bully left me alone! Mabey your child is having social issues in school, after all it is a new school with new, older kids. |
